Girls Preparatory School offers the area's best athletic programming for girls in grade 6 through 12.
Four GPS athletes were recognized for their outstanding performances from this past year as part of last nightβs TFP Best of Preps banquet. Gilly Shumate was honored in cross country and track. Mariah Ivery was also recognized in track. Maud Fiorello and Addie Tabibizar were saluted in tennis. Congratulations, girls! ππΌ
Congratulations to GPS cross country and track star Gilly Shumate '25 for being honored with the Phoebe Wright Award as the top cross country runner in the area by the Chattanooga Times Free Press as part of tonight's Best of Preps banquet! The junior finished fifth at the TSSAA DII AA State Meet last November in a new school record time of 18:15.34. π

The 2023-2024 school year for GPS Athletics has come to a close, and we are thankful for the support of all of our booster club members throughout these last 10 months. We are especially thankful for our local corporate sponsors - Central Park, Fairyland Pharmacy, Smith and Howard, XMS Capital Partners, and University Surgical Associates. We are already looking forward to what the new school year will bring! π
It has been another great year of athletics for GPS on and off the field of play! All five of our winter and spring TSSAA sports have earned the Distinguished Scholastic Achievement Award which recognizes teams that maintain a 3.25 GPA or higher during the spring semester. All five of our teams were well above that standard with our bowling team coming in with an amazing 3.81 team GPA this spring. Congratulations, Bruisers! π€©
Installation of the sod for the GPS stadium field is on schedule and looking good! We cannot wait to see the Bruisers host their first soccer game on the new surface in August. π

Congratulations to the crew of our Varsity 4x that ended its season as the fourth fastest scholastic entry in the country earlier today in New Jersey! The Bruisers crossed the finish line with a time of 5:14.422, less than 3.5 seconds behind third place Agnes Irwin. ππΌ
GPS Softball alumna Chapel Cunningham '21 had a banner year on the diamond for Southeastern University! The junior set a new program record for hits in one season with 91. She was named to the Sun Conference All-Tournament team earlier this month when she led her team with a .474 average with nine hits and a pair of RBIs during the six game series. She was also named Daktronics Scholar-Athlete by the NAIA at the end of her season. Way to go, Chapel! π₯
The team of Eileen Nash, Caroline Barnes, Cat Feeney, and Isabel Ponce turned in the third fastest time of the day in the Varsity 4x at the SRAA's! The Bruiser quad finished second in its heat in 5:14.892 and qualified for the Grand Final tomorrow at 1:25 PM. Fans can catch all of the action on Saturday at the link below. π

Just over two hours from now, GPS Rowing will compete in the SRAA National Championships Regatta with the JV 4x racing at 3:25 PM and the Varsity 4x racing at 4:45 PM. Fans can support the Bruisers by watching the live stream of both events at the link below. π₯

Ninth graders Maud Fiorello and Addie Tabibiazar came up just a few games short of a state title, losing in the D-II AA Doubles Championship match earlier today 4-6, 6-2, 3-6. We are proud of their performance this week, and we look forward to seeing them hit the courts even stronger next season. π₯
These Bruisers are cruising to the finals! The GPS duo of Maud Fiorello and Addie Tabibiazar won its semifinal match 6-2, 6-1, and will now play for the D-II AA Doubles Championship tomorrow in Murfreesboro at 10 AM Eastern. πΎ
Maud Fiorello and Addie Tabibiazar won their quarterfinal match this morning in the TSSAA D-II AA Doubles Tournament, 7-6, 6-3! The Bruiser duo is currently waiting on a weather delay to play its next match against Mimi Bowen and Leena Hamdan from Ensworth. πΎ
GPS finished in eighth place out of 17 teams in the Division II AA State Track and Field Championships last night in Murfreesboro. Highlights for the Bruisers included several top three finishes.
Mariah Ivery earned the bronze in both the 200 Meter and 400 Meter Dash. Haylee Breaux was seventh in the 200. Gilly Shumate finished fifth in the 1600 Meter and third in the 3200 Meter Run in a new school record time of 10:58.38. GPS also finished second in the 4x400 and 4x800 Meter Relays. Adelaide Bond, Helen Kates, Ariana Ivery, and Mariah Ivery finished the 4x400 in 4:05.77. Tessie Braman, Nora Armstrong, Helen Kates, and Gilly Shumate completed the 4x800 in a time of 9:40.28.

It was a great weekend for our alumnae rowers who are now competing at the Division I level! Katie Nash '20 raced in the 1V8+ for #15 Duke at the ACC Championship on Lake Wheeler in Raleigh, NC, and earned All-ACC second team honors. The Blue Devils finished third in the final standings.
Lizzy Wally was the coxswain for the 2V8+ for fifth ranked Tennessee at the Big 12 Championships in Sarasota, FL, where her entry finished second behind top-ranked Texas. The Vols' time in that event was the fastest by a UT 2V8+ boat in Big 12 Championship history.

Six members of our varsity lacrosse team have been named to the TGLA Division II All-East Region team after standout performances this spring! Congratulations to seniors Sofia Bean, Kaitlyn Melda, Caitlin Polk, Gracie Pritchett, and Carly Watson for all being named 1st Team All-Region. Junior Emma Davenport was named 2nd Team All-Region. π₯

The final results from yesterday's Division II AA Pentathlon have now been posted. Mariah Ivery finished 10th out of 30 athletes and finished first in the final event, the 800 Meter Run. Haylee Breaux and Willa Coylewright both ended their day in the top 20. Great job, girls!

The GPS varsity softball season ended with a tough loss at CPA today in Smyrna. The Bruisers battled the Lions through their final at bat but came up two runs short. We are excited about the future of our program with so many young players on the roster, but we are also thankful for our three seniors and the leadership that they provided throughout the spring. Congratulations to all of our players and their coaches on a strong 2024 season. π₯
The Bruisers walk it off to keep their season alive! Nana Reyes knocked in a run with this hit in the bottom of the seventh inning to give GPS a 6-5 win over CPA. The deciding third game of the quarterfinal series will start in about 10 minutes. π₯

The GPS Varsity Tennis season ended today with a loss at Baylor in the TSSAA Division II AA State Team Quarterfinals. We are proud of our girls and their memorable 2024 season that included impressive wins over several top teams from around the region. With much of their firepower returning, we know the Bruisers will be a force to be reckoned with next year!
We look forward to seeing Maud Fiorello and Addie Tabibiazar compete in the AA Doubles competition next week in Murfreesboro. The GPS duo will face Elizabeth Dunavant and Anna-Caroline Domas from Hutchison in the opening round of the bracket on Thursday, May 23, at 12:00 PM EST. πΎ
