RECALL ALERT!!

More than 1.2 million Good Earth Rechargeable integrated Lights sold nationwide are being recalled due to multiple fires — one deadly — as the product's battery can overheat and ignite its plastic casing, according to a notice posted Thursday by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

One person died and another was treated for smoke inhalation when the product overheated and caused a fire in their home last year, according to Mount Prospect, Illinois-based Good Earth. The company knows of nine additional reports of lights overheating, including six that resulted in fire and property damage, it said.

Units were sold at Lowe’s and Amazon .

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced a recall of cucumbers potentially contaminated with salmonella.

A salmonella outbreak that contaminated cucumbers shipped to multiple states has left more than 160 people sickened across the country, including two dozen people throughout the tri-state, according to health officials.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said it has received reports of 162 people who fell ill as a result of the salmonella strain tied to cucumbers, with 54 of those individuals hospitalized. In the tri-state, New York has reported 19 people sick, while there have been three in New Jersey and two in Connecticut, the CDC found.

Governor Ned Lamont and Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) Commissioner Katie D***s today announced the release of a series of grants totaling $10 million that will support the planning, building, expansion, and improvement of 45 multi-use trails located in towns and cities throughout Connecticut.

The grants are being awarded through Connecticut Recreational Trails Grant Program, which is administered by DEEP. Funds to support the grants were approved by the State Bond Commission at its October 2023 meeting. Governor Lamont serves as chair of the commission.

“The Connecticut Recreational Trails Program and Connecticut Greenways Council are continuing to serve a vital role in providing funding for the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of trails across Connecticut,” Governor Lamont said. “The funding for these 45 projects represents a significant investment in our state’s outdoor economy, and our trails and proximity to nature are a big part of why Connecticut is an attractive place to live and work. I am thrilled to announce funding for these projects, which will improve and expand recreational trail opportunities around our state.
