"Where dogs spread rumors about great groomers."
Olaff P
On days like today, we like to share impactful stories that highlight the work that we do. But, not every day here is full of fluffy kittens and playful puppies. It’s a reality that sometimes our work is very hard.
Those of us in the shelter and rescue community are adamant about spaying and neutering. For good reason. Backyard breeding has so many consequences and severe genetic defects is one of them. If you are breeding your pets for any other reason than to preserve the health and temperment of the breed you love, the outcome can be devastating and shelters and rescues are left to pick up the pieces, and it takes a toll on us. As was the case with the precious S*x and the City litter.
These babies were surrendered to us as a litter of five by someone who rescued their pregnant mom from a lady selling her in a parking lot. Two of the puppies, Auggie and Carrie, had spinal defects so severe, we were not able to save them, and one, Charlotte, may experience life long complications because of her’s.
Although this work can be hard, it is rare that we can’t find the silver lining in a situation. Even though we are angry and sad that we couldn’t save them all, we were proud to be a trusted resource for this mom and her babies and the kind citizen who desperately needed our help; because of BDAR Auggie and Carrie did not have to suffer lives filled with pain and hardship; because of BDAR the three we were able to save, Mr. Big, Miranda, and Charlotte have all been adopted by special families who will make sure they never suffer a day in their precious lives; and, because of BDAR their mama Frankie will never again have to have another litter of babies after the untold number she had before them.
We are only able to do this work because of your support and days like WyoGives Day. Never doubt for a second that even the smallest donation will make a difference in a little life. In cases like these, we can’t help but wonder what would have happened to this family had we not been here or had the resources to say “Yes!”. Please help us continue to be able to say “Yes!” and consider a donation to our WyoGives fundraiser in the link in comments.
We had to condense this story for social media purposes, but the much longer and more detailed version can be found in our blog in the link in the comments. After you donate, we encourage to read it.
We are participating in the Hughes Charitable Foundation Incentive Pool. Every donor who contributes online to Black Dog Animal Rescue via the WyoGives platform on July 10th will have their donation boosted by this generous $1,000,000 Incentive Pool BDAR is eligible for $10,000 in funds.
We are 75% of the way to our $30,000 goal!
