As CFD approaches, meticulous preparations are underway. The Prevention team is diligently conducting inspections on the vendors’ setups and the tents around the park. Their goal? To ensure that everything is safe and ready for the upcoming event.

The significance of these safety inspections cannot be overstated. They serve as critical tools for identifying potential hazards, unsafe practices, and risk factors. By proactively addressing these issues, we create a safer environment for everyone involved.

Are you attending this year? What do you enjoy the most of CFD?
Hope you all have a safe and fun Cheyenne Frontier Days, week!!

Firefighter Friday! Meet your Cheyenne Firefighters!
Lt. Derek Pollnow is Cheyenne Fire Rescues Lieutenant/Paramedic of Suppression. He was hired on March 3, 2008 after he moved from California. He has been in Wyoming for 17 years and happily calls Cheyenne his home.
Lt. Pullnow started his fire career in California as a seasonal firefighter with Cal Fire in San Luis Obispo, after he graduated from Cal Poly SLO. He wears many hats in Cheyenne Fire, but the one he is most proud of, and is the most rewarding, is being a preceptor for paramedic students from across Wyoming and even Northern Colorado. He serves as a Union officer for The Cheyenne Firefighters IAFF Local 279, 12 years and counting, as the Public Relations Chairman and Treasurer.
Aside from Firefighting, he enjoys fishing year round - be it fly fishing, from shore or a boat, and on the ice. Lt. Pollnow and his son won the 2024 Ice Fishing Derby at Curt Gowdy tournament this past Winter with his son taking home the biggest species prize. He enjoys a very busy off-duty life with his wife, son, daughter, and golden doodle, this including swimming, baseball, dance, art camps and much more.
Thank you all very much for taking the time to learn about our firefighters. We appreciate your support!

Cheyenne Fire Rescue and the Cheyenne Police Department are reminding residents to be safe celebrating the July 4 holiday and that restrictions apply on fireworks in city limits.

Sparklers, smoke devices, and novelties are the only legal consumer fireworks that can be purchased and used within the city. All other types of fireworks are illegal to use.

“The use of consumer fireworks is not allowed anywhere within the city limits of Cheyenne, including private property, except for sparklers, smoke devices, and novelties,” said Bob Mason, Chief of Prevention at Cheyenne Fire Rescue. “To prevent injuries and possible death, Cheyenne Fire Rescue encourages residents to leave the fireworks to the professionals.”

Violators could be issued a citation and possible fine.

Residents can call 307-637-6525 to report firework concerns. Do not call 9-1-1 to report fireworks violations unless there is an emergency.

CPD will have an increased law enforcement presence throughout the city. The DUI Command Vehicle will be posted to watch for impaired drivers and officers will be assigned to watch for fireworks-related offenses.

For those who enjoy large firework displays, Cheyenne Frontier Days and the City will once again host a fireworks show and this year’s display is designed to be seen from locations all over Cheyenne. Residents can view the show from their neighborhood or at Lions Park (Frontier Park will not be open as a viewing location). The fireworks display will begin July 4 around 9:35 p.m. For more details, visit http://cfdrodeo.co/July4th.

Happy National Wildland Firefighter Day!! Thank you for all that you do!!

Today is National Wildland Firefighter Day. This day falls during the Week of Remembrance and honors the many wildland firefighters across the nation. It is a day that we recognize the hard work and devotion of all wildland firefighters who work to save lives and property every year.

Did you know that Cheyenne Fire Rescue has a wildland program? For the last three years, we have successfully mobilized not only locally, but across Wyoming, Montana, Colorado, and Texas, aiding everything from small to large incidents, propositioned for initial attack, and even project work in fire stricken areas.

While walking on the Greenway, a Cheyenne resident noticed a kitten had been stuck in a storm drain for a couple days. L1 responded to the call, and upon arrival they quickly ascertained that the kitten appeared to be dehydrated and without food. Quick thinking led to the rescue of the kitten and a safe hand off to Animal Control. Thank you to the concerned citizen and thank you to the L1 crew! Good job!

Throw Back Thursday -
Formally created in 1909, Cheyenne Fire Rescue has been protecting the city for more than 110 years. They provide fire protection, emergency medical services, and other life safety assistance.
The transportation from the late 1800's was quite different from the new apparatus available in 2024! Could you imagine going to a fire call in a wagon pulled by horses?

While lithium-ion batteries are generally safe, proper handling, charging, and storage are essential to prevent fires. If a fire occurs, avoid getting too close and seek professional assistance. Stay safe! 🔥🔋

Be careful out there Cheyenne.

Good morning, Cheyenne!

Be careful out there today… drink plenty of water, and be mindful of activities that may spark a grass fire.

Call 9-1-1 at the first signs of a heat related medical emergency and/or fire in the vegetation. Seconds matter for both!

Cheyenne Fire Rescue has seen an increase in injuries since scooters have been introduced into Cheyenne. CRMC's report states that 161 reported ER visits are related to scooter accidents. Between 2017 and 2022 there was 233 reported deaths from e-scooters and 360,800 ER visits from all micro mobility devices in the United States, with most of those injuries happening in 2021 and 2022.
US Consumer safety recommends:
Always wear a bicycle helmet when riding to protect your head in a fall.
Before riding, make sure to check for any damage, which includes examining the handlebars, brakes, throttle, bell, lights, tires, cables and frame.
See and be seen. Most deaths involve motor vehicles. Many micromobility products are small, quick, and quiet, making it difficult for others to spot you, especially in parking lots and structures.
Expect vehicle drivers and pedestrians not to see you; slow down and stay aware of your surroundings.
Use the bell/horn to alert others.
Do not make abrupt, unpredictable movements.
Beware of obstacles. E-scooters have small tires, so objects and uneven surfaces can cause them to stop suddenly, throwing you off.
Always keep both hands on the handlebars and keep items off the handlebars.
Slow down and lean back when you have to ride over bumps.
Never ride under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Only one person per scooter; additional riders can increase the risk and severity of collisions.

Be alert, be aware, and have fun!

At 2:59 p.m. CFR was dispatched to a small grass fire that was spreading in the 100 blk of Western Hills Blvd. The first crew arrived within 2 minutes and began controlling the grass fire and requesting further resources due to proximity to trailers, and structures. The fire was declared out at 3:14 p.m. Less than an acre was involved and no further damage incurred to any property. The cause was determined to be unintentional sparks thrown from a metal blade on concrete near dry grasses.

As we move into the drier months, please use caution while discarding smoking materials and operating powered equipment near dry grasses. As a reminder fireworks are illegal in the City of Cheyenne. Stay safe!

Yesterday was an extraordinary day for the ROTC members in Cheyenne as they received a unique opportunity to explore various emergency response fields. The Cheyenne Police Department, Wyoming Highway Patrol, , and Cheyenne Fire Fighters came together to provide a hands-on experience like no other.
The day was packed with action and learning, starting with intense SWAT exercises that demonstrated the precision and skill required in high-stakes situations. ROTC members also had the chance to rappel down the Tower, gaining a new perspective and appreciation for the bravery of our firefighters.
One of the highlights was meeting Finley, the beloved canine member of the team, whose presence added a touch of warmth to the day’s events.
This informative day was not just about the thrills; it was a valuable educational experience that gave ROTC members a deeper understanding of the critical roles these departments play in our community.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to all the agencies that made this day possible. Your dedication to nurturing the next generation is truly commendable.
