For many of the free-roaming felines in Cheyenne, the Community Cat Program is one of the only resources available to keep them healthy. Fully vaccinating and spaying/neutering these outdoor cats helps to avoid unwanted litters of kittens and is a stepping stone towards community-wide immunity from preventable pet diseases.
This holiday season, you can be a hero for pets from all walks of life! Your end-of-year gift creates second chances and leaves a lasting impact by providing life-saving care, warmth, and hope to the furry friends who need it the most.

Last, but certainly not least, we'd like to celebrate the incredible Danna! Danna has been a staple member of our Shelter family for nearly 15 years, working her tail off to ensure each pet is met with the utmost care and respect.
Danna began her career as a vet tech 30 years ago when she started working at a local veterinary clinic. After 3 years, Danna transitioned to another job but dearly missed working with animals. With an education as a vet assistant, Danna joined the Shelter team on the animal care side before making her way into the vet clinic.
"I love animals. Seeing them go to a loving home or be reunited with their families for years is what drives me," Danna says. "Giving those pets the second chance they deserve is what I love about what I do."
"I remember there was a patron a few years back who called regularly about her pit bull who had been missing for two whole years. One day, a pitty came in who matched the description of the patron's pup. Sure enough, it was her dog! It was such an emotional reunion. No matter the hard moments that come, seeing those happy endings makes it all worth it."
Danna - just like our Gen Z team members tell you on the daily, you slay! Thank you for your years of endless compassion, consistent hard work, and dedication to the pets in our care. Whether it's scheduling surgeries or helping vaccinate a feral cat, we know we can always count on you to be your fabulous self.
🐱 If only there were a ton of adorable, loving cats available for adoption somewhere... oh wait, there is! Our felines are ready to be the utmost purrrfect companion for some lucky humans out there, so swing by the Shelter and meet all these fluff balls today!
Dillinger would like to remind all you pawsome people that the Community Pet Health Fair is this weekend! On Saturday (Oct. 26th) head to Halladay Subaru between 10-2 P.M. with your pets to get them vaccinated and microchipped for free!
You will also have the opportunity to meet with professional dog trainers, local veterinarians, and enter for a chance to win 1 of 20 free dog spay/neuter surgeries at one of our local clinics.

We can't wait to see you all there as we come together to make a healthier community for all our fluffy companions!
Forrest is one of our unsung heroes in the vet clinic. For the last 15 years, Forrest has dedicated his time to being a helping hand to countless animals in need.
In 2008, Forrest was ready for a transition in his career, looking for more fulfilling, impactful work. When he began working at an animal hospital, Forrest had his lightbulb moment: helping animals was what he was meant to do. As 2017 came around, Forrest began working at the Shelter, where he continued to hone his skills as a vet tech.
"It’s quite satisfying to help sick animals find their health again," Forrest explains. "Working as a Vet Tech here at the Shelter is my own way of helping people who couldn’t get the help they needed elsewhere in the community. It makes me feel good to help these animals get back on their feet, whether it's getting them back into the community or adopted. It’s my way of giving back."
Forrest - thank you for 7 incredible years of unwavering compassion and dedication to every shelter pet that has crossed our doors. No matter the challenge, you consistently handle each task with exceptional care, precision, and heart. We’re beyond lucky to have you—you're an absolute rockstar!
You may know her as our incredible Foster Coordinator, but when she's not bottle-feeding kittens, Laura is working her tail off as a vet tech!
Laura began at CAS as a volunteer back in 2019 where she began to learn the ins and outs of sheltering. In 2021, Laura jumped on the CAS train and started her work as a vet tech. No matter the task, Laura was ready to learn and do her part in helping the countless pets who visit the vet clinic every year.
"I've always had a love for animals. I originally wanted to be a vet but life chose a different path for me." Laura explains. "Once I had kids, I decided to start volunteering here in the Vet Clinic. I fell in love with the team I worked with and getting to watch foster babies grow was so incredibly rewarding."
"I love getting to watch the neonatal/bottle babies grow up and become adoptable and find their forever homes. Despite all the hardships, knowing how many animals we’ve saved has made it all worth it."
Laura - despite all the chaos, thank you for being the hilarious, hard-working person you are. Your expertise and compassion have paved the way for so many animals to experience love and a second chance at life. Thank you for treating each of these pets like your own. You are AMAZING!
🐾 The results are in, Cheyenne... Drum roll, please!
According to the Embark Vet DNA kit, Dillinger is an Australian Cattle/Cocker Spaniel/American Pit Bull Terrier/German Shepherd/Boxer mix!
While we can confidently say we expected to see some pitty in there, we were pretty surprised to see he's 27.4% Cocker Spaniel. Regardless, we didn't need the test to know Dillinger is 100% the bestest, most loving boy in town!
Dillinger has patiently waited over three months for the right person to sweep him off his paws and show him all the love he deserves. So if you're looking for a cuddly adventure buddy before the winter begins, head to the Cheyenne Animal Shelter and meet Dilly today!
Our next pawsome vet tech here at the Cheyenne Animal Shelter is the one and only Theresa!
Before starting at CAS working on animal intakes, Theresa had 8 years of on-the-job vet tech experience. After a few months, she felt it was time to get back to the medical side of things. Whether it be vaccinating and microchipping cats or prepping dogs for their neuter surgery, Theresa is ready to take on the work.
"I love the variety of the tasks and I get to work alongside like-minded, kindhearted people every day," Theresa says. "I love getting to help the community, especially when it comes to keeping all the free-roaming cats out there healthy."
"Seeing the happy endings is what drives me as a vet tech. I remember a little kitty who came to us with panleukopenia and ringworm. He was here for 8 weeks in quarantine and later ended up developing seizures. Despite it all, the little guy was adopted and has been living his best life ever since."
Theresa - thank you for your unwavering dedication and care for every animal that comes through our doors. Your compassion shines through in all that you do and your hard work and heart have made a lasting impact on the lives of countless animals. We are so grateful to have you on the team!
Dont forget! The Community Pet Health Fair is this Saturday!

Meet our pet of the week, 🪐Saturn!
This 1-year-old mixed breed gal cannot wait to blossom and grow in a new loving home. Saturn orbited to us all the way from Wheatland and, if there's one thing we've learned, it's that she LOVES people! So much so that she may get a bit anxious when you're gone. Thankfully, Saturn has been doing a wonderful job during her crate training and is ready to put her best paw forward for her next family.
Saturn is a high-energy pup who loves to play the day away, especially when she gets to hang out with her fellow canines. As she's learning to control her energy, we recommend Saturn join a family with kiddos above the age of 10. She'll be sure to show her thanks with all the fluffy cuddles you can handle!
If you're looking for an out-of-this-world pup, Saturn is your gal. Head to the Cheyenne Animal Shelter at noon to meet this cutie today!
This week, join us in celebrating each of our incredible veterinary technicians! To kick things off, we want to spotlight one of our newest vet techs, Starr.
Starr moved to Wyoming back in 2023 all the way from Alaska. Having worked in the medical field, Starr was ready to combine her passion for helping people with her deep love for animals. Starr enrolled in the Penn Foster Vet Assistant program and, soon after, joined the team at the Cheyenne Animal Shelter as an Animal Care team member.
When a position in our vet clinic opened up, Starr felt confident in her animal handling skills to take the leap and go for it! "Thanks to my amazing vet team and Dr. Tessha Winsch, they took me on and gave me the chance to achieve my long-term goals. I can’t ever thank these wonderful people enough for all the support and encouragement they have given me," Starr says.
"The vet clinic has brought so many amazing experiences into my life. Some very challenging and heartbreaking to memories of joy that will always be with me. No matter what the challenges have been, the reward of serving our animals and community has been even greater. I am excited to say I have completed my Vet assistant externship and the next step will be enrolling in the vet tech program."
Starr - thank you for living up to your name and being a shining example of our mission and values. You have brought such a wonderful energy to the Shelter and we are so grateful to have someone as kind and caring as you on our team. Thank you for being your amazing self!
