Friends often love us through some of our most most-cringeworthy moments and cherish us like no one else can. It can be hard to work through conflict effectively though when we are hurt by what our friends say or when the dynamic is thrown off by a life change like a new relationship or a baby. Individual therapy can be a place to process changes in relationships. Relationship therapy can be a place to do the work together to strengthen the relationship. Love and Valentine's Day don't always need to be about romance!! Who are some of the people in your life who make you feel that spark?

7 Virtual Mental Health Resources Supporting Black People Right Now We may be socially distant in this traumatic time, but we're not alone.

A friend asked me, as an ally, how could they support me during this time. For me, it’s not just sharing articles and info graphics. I want you to encourage people to think about racism from a mental health/illness lens.
I think beyond people speaking about how wrong or unfair things are, allies can speak to the psychological foundations of racism and encourage people to get mental health support. Racism is partly psychological; a reflection of fear, insecurity of inadequacy, disconnection with self and others, lack of empathy, and cognitive processing issues ( having distorted thinking or inability to see reality). So posts that address exploring inadequacy , insecurity or fear when it comes to others is important. People wouldn’t need to feel the need to control something if they weren’t threatened by the power of the very thing they’re controlling or if they weren’t afraid of it.
Remember all the education and legal protections won’t matter unless there are mind and heart shifts.
Questions to raise :
Why are you afraid of others?
Why do others seem inferior? Why do you feel superior? Where do you think the core of the anger, jealousy, envy, disgust or avoidance of others stem from? What insecurities about your value, worth or “enoughness” do you have ? What people have made you feel like you didn’t matter? How has abuse or neglect shown up in your life? How has that impacted the type of relationships you form or are reluctant to forming?
