Sometimes, we are thrust into a change that we never saw coming. Sometimes we find ourselves being full-time caregivers, even without the professional title. Here is a list of tips you can refer back to if you indeed find yourself stepping into the role of caregiver for a loved one. Our team is thinking of you and we’re here to support you in any way we can.

Age doesn’t mean we stop pushing ourselves. Age doesn’t mean we stop learning. Age doesn’t mean we watch the world move on without us. There’s more to learn, more to see, more to experience.

Juneteenth. Jubilee Day. Emancipation Day. June 19, 1865. A country reeling from the throws of war was taking steps into a new era: freedom for all.

The significance of this day is felt throughout the fabric of our nation. Today, we reflect, we honor, we celebrate, and we continue the fight for equality for all.

Men’s Health Week is celebrated each year as the week leading up to and including Father’s Day.

The purpose of Men’s Health Week is to heighten the awareness of preventable health problems and encourage early detection and treatment of disease among men and boys.

This week gives health care providers, public policy makers, the media, and individuals an opportunity to encourage men and boys to seek regular medical advice and early treatment for disease and injury. The response has been overwhelming with hundreds of awareness activities in the USA and around the globe.

Let’s encourage the men in our lives to:

1. Check your daily habits - what healthy habits can you add?
2. Schedule a doctor’s appointment - how are your vitals?
3. Connect with your community - what relationships can you pour into?
4. Share your story - can you write your story or share it orally with someone?

Happy Monday! This week is an opportunity to tap into a health mindset. You have a purpose. You are worthy of having a vibrant life. Aging doesn’t discount you. It is a badge of honor—a testament to experience, wisdom, drive, and hope. Let’s embrace today and every day after as our chance to thrive!

“I hike 2 to 3 times per week, on average 4 miles. Because I work from home - this is my way of kick starting my day, getting Vitamin D, exercise and socialization. I work out with a Trainer 2 days per week to maintain my muscle mass. I have been losing muscle mass ! So strength training with my Trainer and eating lots of protein are ways to combat loss of muscle mass. I DO NOT want to shrink !!” - Barbara White, Age 72

We are so inspired by Barbara! Staying physically active and eating healthily is such an important part of vibrant living.

We hope you have an incredible weekend! Keep tagging us in your posts. We love seeing how active our community is. Keep living vibrantly!

There’s a myth about aging that aging automatically means a loss of quality of life.

Here at Sage we actively fight against that belief. We’ve seen firsthand how a holistic approach to aging well can exponential change a person’s experience.

From our programs that serve aging adults in our community, to building beautiful housing specifically for aging adults, to weekly blog posts teaching on subjects from gardening to finance, we believe that aging adults can experience a thriving, fruitful, and enjoyable life.

As Older Americans Month comes to a close, we want to take a moment to look back at why it’s important. In 1963, only 17 million Americans reached their 65th birthday. President John F. Kennedy and the National Council of Senior Citizens met to intentionally address this issue and that was the beginning of what would become Older Americans Month.

This is why we’re here. This is why we honor. Having access to a long and vibrant life shouldn’t be reserved for a few. Arm in arm, we will work to ensure vibrant living is the standard and not the exception.
