Follow me to learn about changing your health!

This statement is too common...

I hear people accept and normalize their symptoms, "because it's always been like that", or because "everyone in my family has rough cycles". I've seen so many people who just believe that throughout the month, they'll just need to call off of work because they're in pain, or that they just have PMDD or PMS and there's nothing that can be done about it.

Common symptoms are still treatable symptoms.

Working with patients, I use a combination of acupuncture, lifestyle and dietary changes to help get them back into their comfortable rhythms and cycles-

And some have never experienced that before.

One of the ways Chinese medicine is different is that it addresses you as a whole person, using science and tested recommendations to help retrain your body out of its pattern.

Acupuncture has a direct effect on hormone levels and function, as well as blood circulation, making it highly effective at relieving the cause of common period symptoms including migraines, fatigue, cramps, back pain, irritability, mood swings, and irregular cycles.

There's a lot you can do to change your health.

When you see your acupuncturist wearing a scarf...

Happy fall everyone!

Now's the time I start seeing allergies, migraines, colds and fatigue in the clinic. Here are some quick tips to help you stay healthy through this season.

🍁 Stay bundled! Keeping certain areas covered helps to improve blood and fluid circulation, which your lymphatic system needs to function. Better circulation = better lymph function!

🍁 Have warm foods and drinks! This doesn't just apply to temperatures, but also to qualities of foods and spices. For example, ginger, fennel and cardamom are considered warming. They help improve digestion and circulation, keeping our metabolism strong.

🍁 Avoid exposure! When you exercise, your pores stay open for a while. You might feel warm when you leave the gym, but your body is extra sensitive to the cold weather exposure, which can make fluid and muscles contract quickly and inhibit circulation. Bring an extra layer to bundle!
.this is also why we recommend staying covered after cupping or gua sha.

And a bonus tip!

🍁 See your local acupuncturist! 🍁

We specialize in helping you through colds, allergies, migraines and seasonal changes because understanding how your body responds to it's environment. It's part of how we diagnose.

Happy fall!

It's officially fall! Here are some quick tips from your friendly neighborhood acupuncturist to help you keep healthy while the seasons change!

Tip 1:

Keep your neck covered. You have a ton of superficial lymph nodes that are easily influenced by exposure to cold temps.

Keep your neck warm! Good circulation means good immune function.

Tip 2:

Have warm foods and beverages! Cold foods can inhibit circulation and are difficult to digest.

Tip 3:

If you workout and sweat, stay extra bundled, and change your clothes! Hanging out in wet clothes when your pores are open makes then especially sensitive to the cold weather.

And bonus tip #4:

See your acupuncturist. We're specialists at treating colds, flu, and allergies.

Happy fall!

Cupping to treat digestive issues! You can apply cups anywhere in the body, including the abdomen.

The suction from the cups gently pulls at the tissue, releasing tension in the smooth muscle of the digestive system and the surrounding tissue. This creates more space for proper digestive movement.

I was told later that these cupping marks got very dark, and the patient felt a lot of relief.

Many people still don't know that much about how acupuncture can help them. ...or how it's helps them.

Acupuncture has strong effects on the regulation of the nervous system, retraining your body out of patterns of ill-functioning. The body is always seeking balance, called homeostasis, and can fall into certain patterns of behavior.

Acupuncture looks at how all of your symptoms are connected and gives it specific stimulation to trigger your body to adjust. Treatments are about teaching your body to change its patterns, and regular treatments help to solidify the new physiological behaviors.

Here's one way your emotional health and mindset affects your physical health.

I walked by a woman today who was in a state of hyper-vigilance. She was uncomfortable as we were walking by each other and clearly got angry when I happened to sneeze, (away from her and with my face covered).

She was carrying her body very tightly and moving stiffly, demonstrating signs of high stress mindset and body posture.

How you think and feel affects how your body moves and functions, and she demonstrated this perfectly!

The book Once and Future King references the first skill of archery to learn is being able to draw your bow and hold it ready for a long time; waiting for the perfect moment to take your shot.

This is my business now. After what already feels like so long, I'm holding the bow; prepared.

After many late nights and T's crossed, we're now just waiting for ...a stamp. A letter. The green light that I can operate and open my doors.

To all those waiting with me,

Thank you!

We're almost there, I'll see you soon.

I am so often asked, "What's the difference between acupuncture and dry needling?" I'm happy to explain.

Dry needling is a technique that is a Westernized adaptation of one style of acupuncture called orthopedic acupuncture, (a style that primarily focuses on musculoskeletal conditions). Dry needling is performed with acupuncture needles, often into acupuncture points, but without any of the theory or knowledge of acupuncture itself. Dry needlers can only needle into muscle tissue, and can only address musculoskeletal issues like muscle pain. Acupuncturists have a more intricate way of mapping the body system, and are not limited to treating pain only.

The main difference, however, is in the training.

To be certified in dry needling, practitioners need very few hours, varying by each state. Because of this short training, they do not get much instruction in needle safety, point location, insertion, depth, and proper needle manipulation. They also do not learn Chinese medicine theory, or how to look at or diagnose the whole person from a Chinese medical perspective. If someone had only a few hours of training, and didn't study chiropractic medicine, would you let them give you an adjustment?

Conversely, the training that an acupuncturist receives in just one term of a generally 4-5 year long Master's program already surpasses the hours needed for a certification in dry needling. By the time we graduate, we have had thousands of hours of hands-on training, including nationally-recognized courses in providing safe treatments and using Clean Field Technique to prevent the spread of disease.

As a result, acupuncturists are not only trained more thoroughly in needle safety and application, we are able to successfully diagnose and treat a wide range of internal issues, especially pain.
