This statement is too common...

I hear people accept and normalize their symptoms, "because it's always been like that", or because "everyone in my family has rough cycles". I've seen so many people who just believe that throughout the month, they'll just need to call off of work because they're in pain, or that they just have PMDD or PMS and there's nothing that can be done about it.

Common symptoms are still treatable symptoms.

Working with patients, I use a combination of acupuncture, lifestyle and dietary changes to help get them back into their comfortable rhythms and cycles-

And some have never experienced that before.

One of the ways Chinese medicine is different is that it addresses you as a whole person, using science and tested recommendations to help retrain your body out of its pattern.

Acupuncture has a direct effect on hormone levels and function, as well as blood circulation, making it highly effective at relieving the cause of common period symptoms including migraines, fatigue, cramps, back pain, irritability, mood swings, and irregular cycles.

There's a lot you can do to change your health.

When you see your acupuncturist wearing a scarf... Happy fall everyone! Now's the time I start seeing allergies, migraines, colds and fatigue in the clinic. Here are some quick tips to help you stay healthy through this season. 🍁 Stay bundled! Keeping certain areas covered helps to improve blood and fluid circulation, which your lymphatic system needs to function. Better circulation = better lymph function! 🍁 Have warm foods and drinks! This doesn't just apply to temperatures, but also to qualities of foods and spices. For example, ginger, fennel and cardamom are considered warming. They help improve digestion and circulation, keeping our metabolism strong. 🍁 Avoid exposure! When you exercise, your pores stay open for a while. You might feel warm when you leave the gym, but your body is extra sensitive to the cold weather exposure, which can make fluid and muscles contract quickly and inhibit circulation. Bring an extra layer to bundle! ..this is also why we recommend staying covered after cupping or gua sha. And a bonus tip! 🍁 See your local acupuncturist! 🍁 We specialize in helping you through colds, allergies, migraines and seasonal changes because understanding how your body responds to it's environment. It's part of how we diagnose. It's officially fall! Here are some quick tips from your friendly neighborhood acupuncturist to help you keep healthy while the seasons change! Tip 1: Keep your neck covered. You have a ton of superficial lymph nodes that are easily influenced by exposure to cold temps. Keep your neck warm! Good circulation means good immune function. Tip 2: Have warm foods and beverages! Cold foods can inhibit circulation and are difficult to digest. Tip 3: If you workout and sweat, stay extra bundled, and change your clothes! Hanging out in wet clothes when your pores are open makes then especially sensitive to the cold weather. And bonus tip #4: See your acupuncturist. We're specialists at treating colds, flu, and allergies. Here's one way your emotional health and mindset affects your physical health. I walked by a woman today who was in a state of hyper-vigilance. She was uncomfortable as we were walking by each other and clearly got angry when I happened to sneeze, (away from her and with my face covered). She was carrying her body very tightly and moving stiffly, demonstrating signs of high stress mindset and body posture. How you think and feel affects how your body moves and functions, and she demonstrated this perfectly! #chinesemedicine #mindset #fightorflight #stress #circulation #immunefunction #acupuncturist #chicago #emotionalhealth #mentalhealth #physicalhealth #mindbodyspirit
