Today, my team and I were notified of a fire at Ella Flagg Young Apartments at 4645 N Sheridan Rd. I was told the fire has been contained.
Residents who were seriously injured were transferred to nearby hospitals for immediate medical attention and treatment.
My office is working with the local authorities as they gather more details about the incident, such as the cause and extent of damage. I am committed to keeping the public informed and will provide updates as they become available.
My team and I extend our deepest gratitude to the first responders, firefighters, and medical personnel for their swift response and dedication during this challenging time. Our thoughts and support are with the affected residents and their families. 💜

On Monday, I had the pleasure of doing school walkthroughs with the President and Vice President of the Chicago Board of Education! Together, we toured Community High School, MccutcheonElementarySchool, and Brennemann Elementary School. As a former student of Brennemann Elementary and Uplift High School, it filled my heart with joy to show the amazing opportunity our local schools have to offer our youth and our community.

On Saturday, our office hosted a coat drive for over 550 people, which included new arrivals to our community and long-time residents in need of resources. At a moment of intersecting crises in our city -- an affordable housing crisis and a migrant crisis -- we are so proud that the 46th Ward can represent what it means for the government to show up and meet the moment. Hundreds of people in our community, including many children, have basic needs like clothing to stay warm in the winter that were not being met. In the face of that, individuals and community institutions across the 46th Ward stepped up to the plate to resource our community. We know this has not been easy. It would be remiss to not name the real community tensions when it comes to welcoming our new neighbors, the imperfection of how our city is working to address this moment of intense need, and the ways Chicago is bearing the brunt of a broken federal immigration system without the kind of federal-level resources needed. Despite all of that, we hope the event can be a beam of light on what it means to respond to those challenges with joy and resilience.
Halloween is almost here, and I cannot wait to see everyone in their costumes, fur babies included. If you are looking for Halloween events to attend, our community has some fun events for the whole family to enjoy! Please review the flyers for more information.
