Today’s modest local gathering for a man whose family is in Mexico. The church was very generous to allow his family of friends a longer visitation than normal, bypassing the expense of a funeral home rental fee.

Last night we attended the 35th Anniversary Mass for AGLO- celebrated by Cardinal Blase Cupich. It was beautiful. No, he did not use the word “gay” or the acronym “LGBT” in his homily, but he did deliver a message of community and covenant, and of readiness for spiritual happening.

Second Funeral Today: family vacillated a bit on cremation v burial. Opted for a grave by the river at Forest Home Cemtery, in keeping with their Loved One’s values. Look at the headstones near the Haymarket Martyr’s Memorial! And right there, on the side of the road: Emma Goldman. It was truly a sweet and sad mishegas of many variations on the theme of Judaism. There was room for all.

A woman came up to me at today’s celebration of life and said “you aren’t my grandma and grandpa’s funeral home”, I replied “No, today we certainly are not”. Although we can be, if that’s appropriate. Rest In Power Adrianne Eve Kessel Panick! This was her own request – a New Orleans style second line. Whenever possible, leave on a high note! Thank you to Martyr’s for hosting our client. Martyr’s is a small bar & live-music venue showcasing eclectic performers, with a menu of pizza & bar bites.

When there’s an accident on Lake Shore Drive holding up family members, you feel especially grateful for talented musicians. Those who are here are treated to a lovely performance.

One year ago we did a burial at Casper Creek cemetery in Galena. Stopped by to check on our client’s grave. Beautiful green cemetery. Amazing echo. All the birds.

Last night we hosted a lovely memorial gathering in our space. The decedent’s father was a local musician who entertained at the Playboy Club in the 1960’s, playing alongside Muddy Waters, Freddie King, and Dinah Washington. Last night this sweet man paid tribute to his son at our space. Fur babies are always welcome and we know this much is true: even the most modest of events can be sacred and special. It’s the humanity, not the flash!
