**** 2022 RULES CHANGES ****

This is gonna be a long one, so grab a beer and hold on tight.

Many of you have been anxiously waiting for us to drop the 2022 schedule. For those of you that don't know, Illinois instituted a new tournament tax and permit fee for this season, and the delays were because we were waiting for a resolution to a bill in the IL house that aimed to remove these unfair practices. In the end they weren't even able to get enough support to bring it to a vote, so the tournament tax is here to stay.

How does that effect us?

As a small club that is 100% payout, this is definitely a kick in the shorts. GRBY-IL was built around the idea that we wanted to make tournament angling as accessible as possible to beginners and those folks with busy schedules. We had an awesome season last year where over 100 anglers competed and enjoyed the series. Unfortunately, the new IL state policies are going to force us to make some changes to stay compliant with the rules. Dave Brooke and I decided in November when the news was announced that we would not support these measures taken by the state against our anglers, and until recently we thought that they might walk back the new regulations... That didn't happen.

So what are the changes to GRBY-IL?

First, since we will be changing the format we will also be changing the name. Henceforth we will be KPR (Ketch Photo Release). We will continue to post event information here on this page, but we already have a KPR page, so like and follow there. I promise we won't change names or pages again.

The format will be changing to an online regional format. The state will be broken into 5 regions; Northwest, Northeast, East Central, West Central, and Southern divisions. We will still maintain the GRBY style 5 day event window where you pick one day to compete. However due to the new regulations regarding site usage fees (tourney tax) we will no longer be able to specify a single body of water. Therefor, you'll be able to fish any of the IDNR managed waters in your particular region. We are compiling a list which we'll post here later today, but the DNR website has a nice tool to break it down for you here:

https://www.ifishillinois.org/profiles/select_lake.php

Just click on your region and it will show you all the eligible lakes for that area. NO, we will not be allowing additional lakes to be added unless the state adds them to their managed properties. There are over 50 lakes in each of the regions including all of our lakes from last years GBRY-IL events, so we're going to keep it simple for this year and stick to state managed waters.

We will also be doing away with the trail series this year since the events won't be live, but we're tossing around the idea of doing an overall AOY which would be the most points accumulated using your best finish in each region. More details on that to come. If you have some thoughts or ideas on this please drop them in the comments. Ultimately we do this for the anglers, so any solid ideas you guys have will be strongly considered as long as we can stay within the state regs.

We are already setup to run on TourneyX, but that's a backup plan at this point. Because so many of you fish more than one event per month Fishing Chaos is a better fit and Dave and I will be discussing that with their owner this week. Additionally, we are looking into using the TopWater app... which is totally free! Free is always great, but we're waiting to see if they can customize their platform to accommodate our 5 day format. We should have an answer on this by the weeks end.

Dave is busy making the schedule and we'll also have that released by weeks end, but expect something similar to last year with an event running almost every week, but alternating regions weekly.

That's the gist of the changes for this season. We realize it's not the same as last year, and we had no intention of changing the format, but politicians in this corrupt state had other plans. Hopefully the online nature of this format will bring more anglers into the fold and at least make the series more accessible for everyone. If the state drops the tournament tax we will bring back the live events, but for now that looks like a distant possibility.

If you guys have any questions or comments drop them below, and we'll be sure to clarify everything for you.

Thank you guys for your patience! It's going to be a little different this year, but hopefully we'll have another fun season and continue growing this awesome club.

Cheers,

Duke
