Spent $42 in total at Matt Bakes - Gangnam Market 📍 1001 w Chicago Ave New Hong Kong bakery Chicago 港式麵包店 Coconut swirl bun 椰子包 BBQ pork bun 叉燒餐包 ⭐ Matcha red bean bun (turtle) 抹茶紅豆包 ⭐ Soup dumplings 小籠包 Truffle beef and egg sando 牛肉黑松露滑蛋治⭐ Wagyu beef sandwich 和牛漢堡菠蘿包 Few things: 1️⃣I grew up with all the buns, including the coconut swirl, hotdog bun, curry beef bun, pork bun. It's all fluffy and soft buns that are perfect reheated. They even have the clamps and mini transparent bags like in Hong Kong 2️⃣Macau had a lot of Portuguese influence so that's why I grew up eating Portuguese egg tarts. We also have Hong Kong egg tarts too that are less sweet, choice of cookie or flaky pastry crust 3️⃣in a lot of 茶餐廳 or quick restaurants in Hong Kong, we eat truffled scrambled eggs with ham, milk tea , and a bowl of macaroni in soup. It's my favorite thing to get when we are back. The thin sliced beef with scrambled egg is absolutely phenomenal and a MUST TRY with buttery soft toast, soft and silky scrambled egg , truffle spread and thin sliced beef I would get this on repeat 4️⃣the crab soup dumplings needed more crab and the burger needed more pickles or honey/sweetness. We especially loved the pineapple bun fried chicken sandwich from @mattbakes.chicago it was saucy and very crispy! They also had these super cute turtle breads! The boba shop there also had purple sweet potato coconut purple rice drink that is going viral right now, it was super good! Highly recommend! We weren’t going to try it until we saw it… 😳🤯 Within the span of 3 minutes by the freezer section, there were literally 10 different groups of people waiting to try this ice cream—no joke. The mango one was sweet and creamy, without an overly artificial flavor. The shell is a very thin layer of chocolate—crispy and sweet! The peach one didn’t have as strong a peach flavor. I think the reason it went viral is because of its super cute shape and beautiful color. 📷 @energizedbyeats A trip to @gangnammarket.chicago for a snack haul is always a good idea! I didn’t realize my videos were in landscape mode until I was halfway done with my snacks 😭. My fellow content creators, you feel my pain but it was too late and the show must go on! I started with the boba ice cream, which had a strong black tea flavor with brown sugar and chewy boba bites. I almost ate half the cup and knowing I had all these other snacks to try, I controlled myself. Next came the Yawamochi Ice Dessert Cup. Chewy, creamy and addicting, this was my favorite out of this haul! The Lays chips flavored Texas Grill BBQ were flavorful and had a good touch of smokiness and sweetness. Then came the Banana Milk and it was so comforting and nostalgic. The Dango mochis were up my alley and had a subtle sweetness and savoriness to them. Next came the Double Mango Juice Pouch! This was fun to open and pour into a cup of ice(which you can get in the freezer isle) just like in Japan! The taste was equally fun and refreshing. As if I haven’t had enough to drink, I brewed some Thai Tea with some oat milk and condensed milk. This is a bang for your bucks and so good! Last was the Strawberry Flavored Yogurt drink in a baby bottle. I don’t understand the baby bottle concept but the drink was really flavorful and a delight. Growing up in Hong Kong, we would scour a Huge Japanese store.we would try all the new candies chips and toys These were all snacks I've never had before, and I found them in Gangnam! Some were nostalgic & some were fun + surprising! Few things to note : 1️⃣The Gangnam market team literally has to buy INSURANCE for the propituous mango ice cream in case they melt while being shipped over to the US 🫨 2️⃣the cantabile Korean drink pouches also include 7+ other flavors like sweet/black Americano, hazelnut coffee, strawberry, orange, banana, blueberry. They are all not too sweet & only 120 calories each. Super refreshing with ice! Ben & my favorite flavor was the peach iced tea 3️⃣it takes some time to peel the Amos Peelerz . I'm definitely not used to it. You have to rip it apart from the top as the "skin" is quite thick and inside is super soft. Like a melted hichew texture. Once you get a hang of it it's actually REALLY FUN to eat 😂 I recommend eating the inside first before the outside as the inside has all the strong mango flavor! It WILL be sticky 😜 4️⃣Gangnam market is a bit of a maze. But it's also the best Asian store , grocery, and supermarket filled with fun snacks IN CITY CENTER CHICAGO You can find the ice, drinks, and prospituous ice cream in the freezer aisle, at the very right side when you get in (closer to checkout) 5️⃣they have limited freezer space and need to sell some propituous mango ice cream to other Asian stores in Chicago. They also have peach and lemon yuzu flavors but I heard mango is the best! If you love the Honey Butter chips like I do, you will LOVE this honey butter tornado potato. They also have classics like Korean corn dogs, with your choice of coating on the outside - I got crispy ramen and Flamin’ Hot Cheetos! Another classic is the Topokki, a sweet and spicy dish made of chewy rice cake rolls. If you’ve never had rice cakes, go try them 🏃🏽 Last but not least, my go-to street food, chicken wings, Korean-style. I got the classic sauce which was slightly sweet and garlicky.
