The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 is official: the latest in Samsung folding smartphones is in your hands

With its 7.6-inch foldable screen, cutting-edge performance and new features, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 pushes the boundaries of mobile innovation.

It was during its Galaxy Unpacked 2023 conference that Samsung officially unveiled the long-awaited Galaxy Z Fold 6, the new flagship of its range of folding smartphones. After the success of previous generations, the Korean manufacturer has once again pushed the boundaries of mobile technology with this new model.
The foldable design, a true signature of the range, has been further refined, the phone measures only 12.1 mm, which is a far cry from the first bulky Galaxy Z Fold, which measured 15.5 mm thick. Indeed, the Z Fold 6 features a new, more square design: when unfolded, the exterior is 2.7mm wider and 1.4mm shorter, giving you a more evenly spaced desk. The Galaxy Z Fold 6 unfolds to reveal a 7.6-inch OLED main display, providing an immersive using experience. Thanks to its robust hinges and its ultra-thin format, the device folds and unfolds with remarkable fluidity.
Due to changes in phone size, screens have adopted more square proportions. Coupled with 12 GB of RAM and up to 1 TB of storage, this configuration allows you to run the most demanding applications without the slightest slowdown.

Faithful to the innovative spirit of the range, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 also includes new, unique features. We can notably cite the retractable photo sensor which deploys when taking selfies. The camera configuration is also largely the same as that of the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and the Galaxy Z Fold 4. The triple camera at the The rear uses the same 50MP F1.8 wide-angle, 12MP ultra-wide and 10MP telephoto cameras with 3X optical zoom. Finally, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 benefits from Samsung's latest software advances with the One UI 6.0 overlay based on Android 14. A fluid and intuitive interface, optimized to make the most of the foldable format.
In a sign of the times, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 also comes with a plethora of AI goodies, which aim to improve the user experience. Circle to Search, Note Assist, Google Gemini, Enhanced Interpeter, Photo Assist and Portrait Studio are just some of the highlights that Samsung is talking about.

Note Assist: Provides translation, summaries, and automatic formatting of meeting notes, but also supports transcription, translation, and summarization of voice recordings;
- S Pen with Galaxy AI: new Sketch to image lets you generate “sophisticated works of art” while using the stylus
- Interpreter: Now offers a dual-screen layout for more natural interaction when speaking with someone speaking another language.
- Google Gemini: Google's new AI assistant is now fully integrated into the Galaxy Z Fold 6

Motorola Razr and Razr Plus 2023 get Android 14 update at long last

The cheapest foldable phone in the US - the 2023 Motorola Razr clamshell - has finally started to receive the latest Android 14 version update.

The 4 years of security updates are for select models from the foldable Razr line that competes with Samsung's Z Flip line directly. This seems like a smart strategy in terms of resource balance, and is close to what everyone else in its brand category is doing in reality, if not in promises.

All of Samsung's secrets just leaked out! Well, at least when it comes to little things like... its two most important foldables for the year, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6!
The company is expected to officially unwrap the Fold 6 and Flip 6 at Samsung Unpacked in Paris next Wednesday, July 10th, but leakster Evan Blass got a hold of the promo materials nearly a week in advance and has published them for the world to see.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6: new features leaked
In the leaked promo materials, Samsung emphasizes the following innovations in its book-style Galaxy Z Fold 6:
- Lightweight, slim design
- AI note summary via Note Assist
- Interpreter feature which benefits from the fold design
- Circle to Search adapted to the large screen
- 1.5X brighter display (up to 2,600 nits)
- 18% faster CPU, 19% faster GPU, 42% faster NPU
- Longer battery life: 23 hours of video (vs 21 hours on Fold 5), 77 hours of music (vs 73 hours on Fold 5)
- Improved camera thanks to newer NPU
- Improvements to zoom quality
- Better dust protection with IP48 rating (vs IPX8 on Fold 5)
- Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on both front and back glass

Of course, there are some welcome changes, even if subtle. If you ask us, the one change we appreciate the most is the lighter weight, which will make the Fold 6 much less of a brick.
The added protection from dust is also nice to see, even if we don't have full dust resistance yet (but Samsung has certified the Fold to resist large dust particles).
The longer battery life is also a welcome surprise, considering the battery size has not changed at 4,400mAh.

Respect: This Samsung factory accounts for a billion Galaxy phones
Just 10 years after it was opened in 2014, Samsung's Thai Nguyen (that's in Vietnam) factory proudly celebrates a significant milestone of producing 1 billion mobile phone units.
SEVT, as the factory is known (that's short for Samsung Electronics Vietnam Thai Nguyen) shares that the remarkable achievement is a source of pride, as few phone manufacturing plants worldwide have reached this milestone. That's an automatically translated blog post from Samsung Vietnam reads.

We are due for an iPad Air refresh in H1 2024, as Apple is widely rumored and pretty much expected to be refreshing its whole iPad lineup, ranging from the iPad mini to the large iPad Pro next year.
The iPad Air will remain the middle-range tablet in the family, certainly delivering excellent value over the regular iPad, but still being way more affordable than the iPad Pro lineup. While it won't be scoring an OLED display like the iPad Pro, the upcoming sixth generation of the iPad Air will be available in two differently sized versions.
Apple is reportedly poised to announce its next iPads in the week of May 6. May 7 is the most probable date, as revealed by Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. Previously, we believed that the iPad Air 6th Gen would be announced in late March or early April.
If anything, we expect a slight update to the overall specs of the rear camera, which didn't receive much love in-between the iPad Air 4 and iPad Air 5 upgrade cycles. Both of those came with a 12MP F1.8 camera capable of 4K@60fps video recording, which was actually rather good for a tablet, but an upgrade will probably be due for the iPad Air 6th Gen.
Ever since the iPad Air 3rd Gen, we've only seen two storage variations for any subsequent iPad Air tablets: 64 and 256GB. Knowing Apple, chances are that the iPad Air 6th Gen will employ a similar storage spread, but what we really want to see is a minimum of 128GB in the iPad Air 6th Gen, with possibly a 512GB version joining the 256GB one. This would certainly make the slate even more intriguing and could justify purchasing the tablet if you're coming from an older slate with 64GB or less. Here's to hoping.
Should I wait for the iPad Air 6?

- You should wait for the iPad Air 6 if you're coming from an older iPad Air or a regular iPad that's getting a bit long in the tooth. The iPad Air 5th Gen is already an excellent tablet that has pretty much everything a regular user might need, but if you've abstained from upgrading up until now, you might as well wait for the iPad 6th Gen and see what improvements that one would bring to the table.
- You should not wait for the iPad Air 6 if you've recently upgraded to the iPad Air 5th Gen or you're coming from an iPad Pro upbringing. We don't expect major changes in comparison with the iPad Air 5th Gen, and the iPad Pro tablets, be they 11-inch or 12.9-inch, have a lot more going for them in terms of features and functionalities, so it wouldn't make sense to consider an iPad Air 6th Gen (unless you stumble upon an awesome discount in the future).

We first heard rumors of Apple’s plan to add a 48MP zoom camera to the iPhone 17 Pro series back in December 2023, and although the iPhone 16 Pro is what we should be talking about right now, it doesn’t hurt to try seeing into Apple’s more distant future…
However, even without any leaks/rumors, I could tell you a triple 48MP camera system was always in the cards for the premium iPhone models, and it looks like it’s just a matter of time until the 48-48-48MP iPhone comes along.
Now, to the question of why we haven’t seen this high-res camera system from Apple yet, as it often goes, the answer is “because Apple can afford to wait”.
- iPhone 15 Pro already has a 48MP primary camera
- iPhone 16 Pro is reportedly getting a brand new 48MP ultra-wide-angle camera
- So, the only logical step for the iPhone 17 Pro is to close off Apple’s new 48MP camera triangle with another 48MP periscope zoom snapper
