Professional mouthpiece refacing and repair services in Chicago, IL.
Another fun project: decided that his 8* Jody Jazz bass sax piece was too small, so he had me open it up to a whopping .138"! This one now holds the record for the most open mouthpiece I've ever done.
Thanks for the kind words Chad E Taylor !
EVW Refacing Services Professional mouthpiece refacing and repair services in Chicago, IL.
This was a wild project. A customer purchased a "Jody Jazz" tenor piece online and wanted to see if I could make it play. While there are a lot of counterfeit mouthpieces out there, this one actually seemed to be made out of a pretty decent blank. After opening it up to a .105" and reshaping the rails it's now a screaming piece at a bargain basement price!
This piece came to me with a cracked shank and a custom baffle, making it completely unique and irreplaceable. At the customer's request I did a full copper sleeve on the shank, ensuring it will be a solid player for years to come!
My refacing services are now offered at PM Woodwind Repair !

On the bench today: a modern Otto Link Super Tone Master 7. This piece came to me with some typical wear on the rails and table, and measuring out at .096". At the customer's request I opened it up to a .107" and now it seals and sings!
Today's project: opening a Bilger Morgan tenor piece from .090" to .105". This turned out to be a great player with a surprising amount of power once it was opened up!
On the bench today: a Selmer Elkhart New York hard rubber tenor mouthpiece! These things are very similar to the Dukoff Supersonic/Zimberoff House of Note mouthpieces. Huge chamber, rounded side walls, but usually way too small a tip opening for a modern tenor player. I opened this one up to .111", making it more like an Otto Link 8!
Another day, another bite plate. This one's on a Ponzol blank that I'm working on as a custom project piece.
This one is a beauty. A Zimberoff Hollywood tenor piece, circa 1949. Bobby Dukoff sent about 100 of his "BD Hollywood" blanks to the Zimberoff company to be finished and sold under their own name, and this is one of those. It came to me in pretty rough shape, with some tip damage and measuring only about .095". I cleaned up the tip and opened it up to .110", and now it's a piece that truly lives up to the hype about Dukoffs of this vintage!
Next on the bench, a Meyer G Series tenor mouthpiece that was marked as a 6 but only measured .076"! I opened it up to .092" and evened out the rails and baffle. More mouthpieces coming soon!
This was a fun one. Filled in a tooth gouge on this Meyer alto piece and opened it up to .080".
As the saying goes, "toast always lands buttered side down and mouthpieces always land on the tip". Crack and chip repairs are some of my favorites because I love taking mouthpieces that would otherwise be trashed and bringing them back to life. This Selmer Concept even passed the pop test after I was done with it!
I've been slacking on my social media presence, but that doesn't mean I haven't been working! This is a Woodwind Company tenor mouthpiece that I opened up to .110". Think of it as the precursor to the legendary Hollywood Dukoffs!
More repairs and refacing projects in the queue, so stay tuned for more mouthpieces!
Haven't posted much in a while, but this is one I'm really proud of. Opened a Selmer short shank C* alto mouthpiece to .095"!
Chip repair on a Berg Larsen 105/2 M bari piece. The facing was already pretty good on this one, so it was just a question of reshaping the corner of the tip rail/side rail.
Tip repair/reface on a Berg Larsen 95/2 SMS. It originally measured. 080" in spite of what it was labeled, so I maintained the original facing curve and cleaned up the tip rail.
Chip repair/reface on a Jody Jazz HR bari piece. The corner of the tip had broken completely off, going through the tip rail and chipping the side rail. A big job but it turned out great.
Modern Otto Link 6. Flattened the table and evened out the facing curve.
