The Black Researchers Collective was founded in December 2019.
The mission of the Black Researchers Collective is to train and equip communities with the research tools necessary to be more civically engaged and policy informed.

This past Saturday, we kicked off our Englewood Community Workshop Intensive with our cohort in partnership with the Englewood Arts Collective () and The Healing Academy (). The energy in the room was EVERYTHING. We're so excited about the arts economy campaign that we're building with Englewood. So many dope organizers in the room. Shout out to Austin Coming Together (.chicago) and our incredible cohort of Civic Researchers who completed the Austin Community Workshop Intensive a couple of weeks ago. The framework for the Austin Community Action Research Project, focused on conducting a community needs assessment of mental health services and offerings, has been initiated and will be kicking off in a few weeks.

Black Researchers Collective’s Austin Community Workshop Intensive seeks to engage a community cohort of folks who are interested in using research and data to contribute to the Austin Quality of Life Plan and help build capacity for mental health services in the Austin neighborhood with Austin Coming Together & Black Researchers Collective.
This workshop intensive is intended for people who live and/or work in the Austin community. Registration ends on Monday, June 10th, 2024 at 11:59 pm.
Workshop Dates:
Saturday, June 15th: 10:30am - 3:30pm
Saturday, June 22nd: 10:30am - 3:30pm
Wednesday, June 29th: 6:00 - 8:00pm
Those who attend and choose to lead a component of the Austin Community Action Research Project (Community Anchor Civic Researchers) will receive a small honorarium between $1,800 to $3,600 for up to six months beyond the completion of the intensive to ensure sustainability and commitment to the community campaign.

Collaboratives, Collectives, and Communities: Making a Home for Research among the People. Just a snapshot of what happens when three Black-led and Black serving collectives doing decolonizing research in their respective communities get together in Philly. Shout out to the in New York and in Seattle for this incredible cross-country collaboration that we've curated together. Black Researchers Collective was grateful to represent Chicago and hold it down for the Midwest.

As Black History Month comes to a close, we hope you’ve had an opportunity to learn, celebrate, and appreciate the beauty of our history, people, and culture. In the spirit and legacy of our ancestors, we’re honored to continue stewarding research and data-related resources and capacity-building offerings in predominately Black communities.
Last fall, many of you pitched the communities that you wanted us to be working with in 2024. We’ve reviewed your requests and made our final selections. Thanks to you, this year our Community Coffee Chats and Community Workshop Intensives will take place in the following south and west side communities: Auburn Gresham, Austin, East Garfield Park, and Englewood.
We’re interested in anchoring our capacity-building efforts (aka free research trainings) in the context of your grassroots campaigns and organization work in the most meaningful ways that you see fit.
