Human Agility Lab
The Human Agility Lab in Northwestern University's Feinberg PTHMS department researches the biomechanics of walking.
Postdoctoral Fellowship in Neuromechanical Control of Human Locomotion
Northwestern University
The Human Agility Laboratory under the direction of Keith Gordon (https://www.feinberg.northwestern.edu/faculty-profiles/az/profile.html?xid=20816) invites applications for a postdoctoral fellowship in the specialty of neuromechanical control of human walking. The position is for an initial one-year appointment and has the potential to be renewed for an additional year based on performance and funding availability.
The postdoctoral fellow will work on a project aimed at understanding how environmental uncertainty impacts locomotor adaptation. The fellow will take a lead role designing and conducting experiments to assess how people adapt, plan, and control walking trajectories in novel external environments. Experiments will evaluate predictive and reactive locomotor responses to external forces applied to the body during goal-directed walking tasks. External forces will be created using a custom-built, cable-driven robot.
Candidates will have completed a PhD in an area related to biomechanics, neuroscience, or engineering. Candidates must have strong research interests and experience in human motor control/learning. Technical knowledge of motion capture, programing (Matlab, Python, R) and statistical modeling is highly desired. Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential.
The Human Agility Laboratory is part of the Department of Physical Therapy and Human Movement Sciences (https://www.feinberg.northwestern.edu/sites/pthms/) within the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. We are located on the Chicago campus of Northwestern University, between Lake Michigan and North Michigan Avenue along “Chicago's Magnificent Mile.” Chicago has vibrant rehabilitation, engineering, and neuroscience communities that you will have the opportunity to interact with and learn from.
