What is IFTA?

✅ IFTA stands for International Fuel Tax Agreement. It is an agreement between the lower 48 states in the U.S. and the 10 Canadian provinces, designed to simplify redistribution of fuel taxes paid by motor carriers. 📑

When the report is due?

✅ IFTA fuel reports are due four times a year, the last day of the month after each quarter closes. The exact dates are April 30, July 31, October 31 and January 31. If the last day of the month falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or legal holiday, the next business day is considered the due date.🗓️

How do I file an IFTA report?

What happens if You fail to file or pay a quarterly return?

✅ If a carrier fails to file a quarterly IFTA return, they have 30 days to complete the requirements before their license gets suspended. Late payments are subject to a penalty of $50 or 10% of the total tax due. Whichever is higher.💸

🎁 Gas station and convenience store chain Sheetz has announced that starting on January 10th and lasting through the rest of the month, Sheetz will offer 50 cents off per gallon at each location that sells the fuel type ⛽️. The company estimates that the 50 cent reduction will save commercial truck drivers about $10 for mid-size trucks, $12 for full-size trucks and $60 each time they fill up from empty🚛 .

This isn't the first time they've delighted their customers with unexpected dicounts. Last September, Sheetz celebrated Truck Driver Appreciation week by dropping diesel price to $4.49💵.

We want to remind that the average price for a gallon of diesel now is $4.64 , up over a $1 from a year ago. During this offer, the price displayed at the pump is the final purchase price and reflects the price rollback 🧾.

The United States Congress recognized the need for a drug and alcohol free transportation industry, and in 1991 passed the Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act, requiring DOT
Agencies to implement drug and alcohol testing of safety-sensitive transportation employees. 📑 The DOT, along with FMCSA, adopted regulations requiring CMV operators required to maintain a
CDL to be tested for alcohol and drugs. Generally, all CDL drivers 🪪 who operate CMV 🚛 on public roads are subject to DOT drug and alcohol testing. A driver's refusal to submit to a drug or alcohol test is generally equivalent to testing positive to a drug or alcohol test. ❗️❗️❗️

DOT drug tests require laboratory testing for the following five classes of drugs:
❌ Mariuana
❌Cocaine
❌Opiates - o***m and codeine derivatives
❌Amphetamines and methamphetamines
❌Phencyclidine

A driver fails a drug or alcohol test by testing positive to a drug test, or registering a 0.04 or greater alcohol content. Either of these results requires the driver to be immediately removed from performing safety-sensitive functions until successful completion of the return-to-duty process with a DOT-qualified substance abuse professional.✅

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration is awarding over $463 million in grants via its MCSAP to states and names prevention of crashes, fatalities, and injuries involving commercial motor vehicles or CMVs as it’s core mission.

🚚These grants come after a significant rise in fatalities involving large trucks 📈 and will help
DOT implement the National Roadway
Safety Strategy. That includes funding to state and local law enforcement agencies as well as other government entities for safety inspections of trucks 🚔, investigations of motor carriers in response to safety concerns, and audits of new trucking companies to ensure the safe movement of goods across the United States.

All 50 States, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. territories of American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands will receive federal funds.

What is USDOT number?

✅ A DOT number is a unique identifier assigned to each motor carrier that takes cargo across state lines and helps to instantly see its complaint history, safety rating, and accident record.📑 It's kind of like a company’s “plate number”.

Why is a USDOT number important?

✅ The FMCSA requires every motor carrier that transports goods across state lines to have a USDOT number. 🚚 A DOT number connects a transport company to its safety record and helps to protect customers against fraud as well as confirm the business's legitimacy. You can use the FMCSA's website to check it’s s complaint history, safety rating, and accident record.👨🏻‍💻

The FMCSA has removed ELDorado ELD from the list of registered ELD due to the company’s failure to meet the minimum requirements. 📑

FMCSA has sent an industry email to let motor carriers know that all who use ELDorado ELD must take the following steps:

✅Discontinue using the revoked device(s) and revert to paper logs or logging software to record required hours of service data.
✅Replace the revoked device(s) with compliant ELD(s) from the Registered Devices list before November 7, 2022.

Beginning November 7, 2022, motor carriers who continue to use the revoked device listed above would be considered to be operating without an ELD. Safety officials 🚔 who encounter a driver using a revoked device on or after November 7, 2022 should place the driver out-of-service in accordance with the CVSA OOS Criteria.

FMCSA strongly encourages motor carriers to take the actions listed above to avoid violations.However, it is worth mentioning that If the ELDorado ELD provider corrects all identified mistakes FMCSA will place the device back on the list of registered devices. We would like to inform that ELDorado ELD is still listed on the Revoked ELDs’ list.

WEIGHT DISTANCE PERMITS

Operating in them require special permit for gross vehicle:
over 18,000 pounds in NY
over 26,000 pounds in NM
over or equal 59,999 pounds in KY

How to choose the right truck?🤔

Trucks can be considered as a “bridge” between the manufacturer and the merchants, as they transport the consignment from Point A to Point B to reach the end-users,or us.🚚 There are more than 15 types of trucks, but not all of them are used in logistics. Let’s talk about the most common types:

⁃ Temperature controlled trailers or “Reefers”: trucks that have the facility of refrigeration❄️; used for transporting goods that require the products to be kept a specific temperature. Usually used for food products. 🥚🥩

⁃ Flatbed: trucks that have cabin for a driver, and rest of it is open and because of that they are easy for loading and unloading👍; best for transporting woods, pipes etc.

⁃ Step deck: really similar to Flatbed, but uses a two-tiered approach to hauling cargo. This includes an upper deck, and a lower deck.

⁃ Dry van: full sized, enclosed, “classic” 🚛 trailers, good for transporting boxed or skidded freight.📦

🕖 Any ELD chosen by driver/company must be self - certified and registered on FMCSA’s website. ✅ You can visit FMCSA to view the list of self-certified ELDs. According to the rules on the website, if ELD that you are using is found to be non-compliant after it is in use, you have 8 days to replace it with a compliant one.

🗽It's no secret that America is a land of roads and transportation. Today we want to tell you briefly about the full cycle of cargo transportation. 💁🏼‍♂️

🧔🏻‍♂️🪪 The first step is to hire a driver. This is where the Safety department plays an important role. The manager checks the driver's background, contacts past employers, receives detailed feedback and assigns a drug test. ✅ And further indicates all the information in the insurance and permit.

📲🔋 Then the company gives the driver an ELD device and this is where the fun begins, the Dispatch department comes into play. Dispatchers look for a suitable cargo, negotiate with a broker and sign a Rate Confirmation. The driver goes to the facility, picks up the cargo and goes from point A to point B.
📞 During all this time, dispatcher and update team are in touch with the driver and report to brokers.

📑🗳 After delivery, receivers sign the BOL, driver sends POD and this is where the Accounting department comes into action. ✅ They check all the documents in detail, send them to the factoring company and calculate driver's salary.

💁🏻‍♀️ This completes the delivery cycle. Of course, from the outside it may seem that everything is easy, but in fact it is a very time-consuming process.
