Rooted Living
Offering thoughtfully curated home goods, creative workshops to unplug, and beautiful houseplants.
New to our potting mix bar: Rice hulls.
Rice hulls are an increasingly popular replacement for perlite to increase aeration and porosity in potting mixes. Rice hulls are a byproduct of rice production, so they reduce waste and are very renewable!
You can buy potting mix components and amendments by the scoop at our potting mix bar. No need to source and store large bags when you only need a few scoops! We offer a premium premade potting mix, coco coir, perlite, pumice, horticultural charcoal, LECA, worm castings, orchid bark, and now rice hulls!
Enjoy 20% off our potting mix bar every Wednesday.

New(ish) item! "New-ish" because we started carrying these this spring and I haven't shared them here yet. And they are so worth sharing!
Essential oil roll-ons from are created to elevate your day with essential oils blended with a purpose. Good Karma, which targets patience, is a favorite of mine.
From Orglamix: "Blended from 99% pure and natural, steam-distilled patchouli, sweet orange and lemongrass essential oils known to support good intentions. With its unique aroma, Good Karma offers a fragrant, natural, and effective alternative to synthetic options for positivity and quiet introspection."
Keep this in your desk or bag and roll on your temples or back of the neck whenever you need an extra dose of patience.
We love Orglamix for being a woman-owned, Glenview-based small business focused on non-toxic and cruelty-free beauty.

Here's how it all began! My pandemic pivot began 4 years ago with a plant pop-up shop in 's studio. As time went on, the studio got smaller and the shop, named Rooted by Pollen, got bigger. A year ago, Rooted by Pollen rebranded to Rooted Living, adding a consciously curated selection of gifts and home goods as well as creative workshops.
Thanks to all who have supported us on this journey!
This is our weekend look. Please don't let the heavy machinery keep you from coming by for Teacher Appreciation and Mother's Day gifts!
If you're stumped about what to give, plants are a safe option for most people! And we can help you choose easy care plants for those who put all their nurturing energy into people, rather than plants.
We also carry scented candles, handmade soaps, journals, and other self-care items to encourage taking some time for oneself.
On our newsletter list? Check your inbox for gift ideas made by local, woman-owned, eco-friendly businesses.
Teacher Appreciation Day is Tuesday, May 7th! And because they deserve more than just a day, Monday kicks off Teacher Appreciation Week.
Come by this week and pick up a little something to show your kiddo's teacher that you appreciate them! We have plants (of course), locally made natural soaps and candles, journals, and plenty of other goodies to encourage the teacher in your life to enjoy some self care.
We have you covered for Mother's Day! In addition to plants, we have gift items to encourage the mama in your life to slow down and reconnect with themselves. And of course, we have greeting cards for all sorts of moms, including weird moms, plant moms, step moms, new moms...
Remember to shop early if you have to mail a card or gift to your mom!
πΏοΈ π° π± As part of a larger project, the (admittedly unhealthy) oak trees that were in front of our shop were removed this morning. To honor the trees and their acorns, let's revisit a joyful moment during the pandemic: when I was visited by a squirrel looking for safe places to stash her acorns.
And this is why we love Riley & Wheat! Locally made, woman-owned, and eco-friendly. π
Riley & Wheat has a simple mission: to provide beautiful candles without the chemicals, toxins, and harmful additives, while using wicks without lead and zinc.
All Scents are a blend of natural essential oils, and are phthalate Free.
Our candles are crafted for your health and the environment, to provide a clean, long-burning candle that wonβt damage your natural surroundings.

Hiya!
Welcome to our houseplant shop! How did we get here? Well, a pandemic happened! Pollen is primarily a wedding florist and with weddings being postponed, my studio and my time, quite unexpectedly, became available indefinitely. With a beautiful storefront and a love of plants and design, I decided to offer plants for the home to a world yearning for comfort and nature.
We offer a selection of unique houseplants, for plant newbs and plant ninjas. If you like watching them grow, we have lots of options in 4" nursery pots, and if you like them already grown, we have larger plants as well. We're focused on foliage plants and love ones with special coloration or variegation. We'll leave the basic stuff to the big box stores.
We carry pots, plant stands, hanging planters, watering cans, propagation stations, misters, books, and will add more items to our inventory as we get a sense for what you all need for your plant babies.
For now, we offer online shopping with curbside pick-up and in-store shopping by appointment only. Once it feels responsible, we'd love to have you wander into our storefront! In the meantime, you are welcome to window shop at 2918 North Milwaukee Avenue in Chicago.
