Curious about what goes on inside the Penny’s kitchen? One of our specialties is our house-made barbecue pork. Once it’s cooked, we slice it to use in a variety of dishes, from Chinese fried rice to wonton soup.

Once upon a time, the two women(Goi & Nui) that run Penny's Chicago, ran a French style crepe shop. I'm trying to talk them into adding this to their repertoire. Trouble is they need convincing. What do you think?

First of all, we would like to thank you, our loyal patrons, for your patience and understanding, as we here at Penny’s, like so many of you, have dealt with the Covid 19 situation and its impact on our lives. Although we felt ready to reopen several days ago we wanted to wait a little longer. All our employees have tested negative and we feel with this, plus a professional sanitizing of our Chicago location and the elapsed time, we are ready to safely resume our food service today. More than anything else we want you to be confident that we have done all we can to safely serve you now just as we have for thirty years. As an extra step of caution, we will, initially, limit our service to carryout and delivery. Again, thank you for trusting that we put everyone’s safety above all and we’re ready to take your order.

Update: Dear Friends, This is to announce that everyone here at Penny's has taken the Covid test and we are still waiting for the results. We should have all results by this weekend and will post the opening date as soon as we have those results. Thanks for your understanding as we are putting safety above everything else. Dear Friends, We here at Penny's have strived to stay open safely ever since this Covid situation turned all our worlds upside down. Many restaurants closed for various reasons, but we, for our long time employees, who all have families to consider, and you our loyal patrons, tried to keep our kitchen turning out the meals that Penny created and we have been serving for 30 years. Again we wanted to do this as safely as possible. This week one of our employees tested positive and we decided to close our doors for a period that would allow us to thoroughly sanitize our restaurant have all our team tested and evaluate, when it would be safe to reopen. We wanted to be completely open about this, as we feel obligated to be honest so that when we do reopen you can have complete confidence that we are doing everything possible to keep everyone safe and happy. We will initially be closed through Wednesday 10/14 and will reevaluate whether this needs to be extended based on the testing results and the guidelines of the CDC. Penny's Bánh Mi. We start with a crispy French Baguette. Ginger/soy/scallion infused Mayo. Layered with pork belly that's slow braised for ten hours then a 2 minute sizzle on the grill. Fresh cucumber and jalapeño are next then topped with house made pickled daikon/carrot mix and fresh cilantro. Pickup, delivered or served in our spacious patio. You have to try this one!
