Today, we honor the historical legacy of Juneteenth, a day that commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States. On June 19, 1865, Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas, bringing news of freedom to the last remaining enslaved people, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation.
Juneteenth is a time to celebrate freedom, resilience, and the enduring spirit of the African American community. Let’s take this opportunity to reflect on our shared history and commit to promoting equality, justice, and unity.
At Lakeside Spine & Wellness, we stand in solidarity with our Black community and strive to create a space where everyone feels heard, respected, and empowered. Join us in celebrating this significant day and continuing the fight for a brighter, more inclusive future.

Myth Busted! 🚫 At Lakeside Spine and Wellness, we believe in transparency and effective care. Contrary to what you might have heard, X-rays or expensive MRI’s aren’t typically necessary to obtain an accurate diagnosis and shouldn’t be used to determine a patient’s care plan. Unfortunately, many offices use imaging as a “scare tactic” which can lead to lengthy and very costly treatments. Here at Lakeside, we focus on accurate diagnosis and personalized care using the MDT (Mckenzie Method). Our approach relies on the patient’s response to specific movements, ensuring a reliable and tailored treatment plan that puts your well-being first. Say goodbye to unnecessary procedures and endless care and hello to fast, effective care!🤝🏻

Discover the healing power of Dry Needling with Dr.Mendez! ✨ To understand how this therapy works, we must understand what a trigger point is. How can needling help: ▫️Decrease tightness and muscle tone ▫️Increase blood circulation and restore function to muscles that are painful or inhibited ▫️Improve motor recruitment of the areas being treated Whether you’re seeking relief from chronic pain, stress, or simply want to optimize your health, these therapies can make a world of difference. 🩻 A common practice in many chiropractic offices is the routine use of x-ray and MRI to “diagnose” musculoskeletal issues and to also investigate postural asymmetries and degrees of degeneration in a patient’s spine. While there is a time and place for imaging, it should NOT be the first line of defense unless warranted….Why is this you ask? 🤔 Find out in out new blog! Check the link in our bio! 👌🏼
Try these exercises to bulletproof your knees 💥 ▫️Wall squat with toe raise: This movement focuses on strengthening of the quadriceps muscles and tibialis anterior which are both extremely important muscles that stabilize the knee as well as the ankle joint. Butt, back, head flat against the wall. Try to get knees close to 90degrees (adjust for comfort). Slowly raise the front of your feet up towards the ceiling while keeping the heel of your feet planted into the floor. ▫️Squat w/ heel raise: Raising the heels up during a typical squat will place more tension on the quadriceps muscles and patellar tendon which will help create more strength and stability around your knee joint Start with feet slightly inside shoulder width. Elevate heels using whatever you have (old books, mats, pillows, ect). Maintain upright posture while bending knees into a squat position. ▫️Lateral step down: The focus of this exercise is to activate your glute/butt muscles which are vital to stabilization of your hips and core. Step down to side slowly and controlled while maintaining a level pelvis. Hips should not dip! Also, the goal is to hover above the ground at the bottom of the movement, not stepping all the way down. ▫️Hamstring heel slides: This exercise is all hamstrings. Need a slippery surface and towel (or just use socks). Raise the hips SLIGHTLY off the ground (raising the hips too high may lead to over activation of muscles in the low back). Then slowly extend legs out (the heels of your feet always in contact with the floor), then curl legs back in as far as possible (try to get your heels to your butt). 🔹Sets and reps: As with all exercises sets and reps don’t matter and should be completely subjective. Aim for 3 sets to muscle fatigue for each exercise. 🔹Muscle fatigue = about 5reps past initial “burn” of muscles 🔹All exercises should be performed slow and controlled. Its not about completing the reps, its about being strong, stable, and c
Benefits of Dry Needling
Dry Needling is a technique the doctors at Lakeside use to treat pain and movement impairments.
-The primary goal of Dry Needling is to desensitize super sensitive structures, to restore motion and function and to possibly induce a healing response to the tissue.
-Dry Needling is extremely beneficial for quick and tangible results on top of other movement remediations.
-Dry needling involves a thin filiform needle. The needle penetrates the skin and stimulates underlying myofascial trigger points and muscular and connective tissues. The needle is used to target tissues they are not able to reach with their hands.
-Dry needling can release or inactivate trigger points to relieve pain or improve range of motion. Research suggests that dry needling improves pain control and reduces muscle tension.

🔥Fire Cupping🔥 is a treatment technique that places glass, bamboo or plastic cups on the skin to enhance circulation, relieve pain, and extract toxins from the body. Fire cupping is an alternative, non-invasive treatment technique that uses special cups placed on the skin to encourage blood flow to dysfunctional areas. Dr. Mendez offers this pain-free and non-invasive treatment technique to patients who suffer from tall types of joint and muscular pain. During treatment, Dr Mendez puts a flammable substance inside of a glass cup before lighting it on fire. She allows the fire to go out before placing it on the skin. The cup is left on the skin, creating a suction that causes your skin to rise and redden within the cup. This process causes your blood vessels to expand, encouraging blood flow and increased circulation to the damaged areas. What Are the Benefits? 🔥Pain relief 🔥Improved range of motion 🔥Reduced inflammation 🔥Treats sports injuries 🔥Stress relief through "aiding the peripheral nervous system and stimulating the parasympathetic nervous system" 🔥Brings body to homeostasis 🔥Allows body to function and heal on its own Visit our link in bio or call 773.828.9506 to book an appointment with Dr. Mendez.

Are you experiencing jaw pain? Keep reading! The temporomandibular (tem-puh-roe-man-DIB-u-lur) joint (TMJ) connects your jawbone to your skull. You have one joint on each side of your jaw. TMJ disorders can cause pain and popping in your jaw joint and in the muscles that control jaw movement. Signs and symptoms of TMJ disorders may include: ▫️Pain or tenderness of your jaw ▫️Pain in one or both of the temporomandibular joints ▫️Aching pain in and around your ear ▫️Difficulty chewing or pain while chewing ▫️Aching facial pain ▫️Locking of the joint, making it difficult to open or close your mouth The temporomandibular joint combines a hinge action with sliding motions. The parts of the bones that interact in the joint are covered with cartilage and are separated by a small shock-absorbing disk, which normally keeps the movement smooth. Painful TMJ disorders can occur if: ▫️The disk erodes or moves out of its proper alignment ▫️The joint's cartilage is damaged by arthritis ▫️The joint is damaged by a blow or other impact Factors that may increase the risk of developing TMJ disorders include: ▫️Various types of arthritis, such as rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis ▫️Jaw injury ▫️Long-term (chronic) grinding or clenching of teeth ▫️Certain connective tissue diseases that cause problems that may affect the temporomandibular joint.
