Beautiful weekend coming up! Celebrate the arts near and far. In our old haunt, our neighbor, Roman Susan founder Kristin Abhalter opening her Double Stitch collection Friday night. Also Friday, if you feel like getting out of the neighborhood, DJ extraordinaire Shon Dervis will be spinning vinyl at the Stony Island Arts Bank, 5-8 pm. Saturday Reproductive Justice is hosting a free event at Loyola Park Fieldhouse. Loads of giveaways, music and great info. They are an awesome organization, go out and support! Couple of Archies faves doing shows Saturday night, Twin Coast at Shubas and Growing Boys at Underground Lounge. Open House Chicago all over the city, and this year there’s a photo contest! So much to do, how did we ever run a cafe? Enjoy, and maybe see you there!😻
So much going on! Now that we’re not hosting you at Archie’s we’re getting out and enjoying some of what this fine city has to offer! Here’s our weekend pics.
See you there! 👍
Power of the people! Thank you all for stepping up, writing letters, signing the petition, and vocalizing your disapproval of the way Loyola was initially handling the purchase of the building that houses Archie’s, our business neighbors, the building tenants, and campus development. Your voices were heard! Holding their feet to the fire did result in Loyola addressing the situation. They agreed to give Archies some compensation for the buildout we did to the space. This campaign also prompted them to assist the tenants in the building in finding new accommodations. Because of this, Loyola is now working to engage the community in dialogue over their development plans. Not that any of this is perfect, but it is a step in the right direction. None of this would have happened without your voices. Be proud of yourselves and continue to speak out for injustices and being a positive force for yourself, your neighbors, your community and beyond! Know that there is power in numbers and participation!
Special shoutout to our neighbors for spotlighting this situation and their inspiring fight for justice for all in this issue.
And to and for their support.
You are all awesome, thank you so much! 👑🎖️✊
Well, that’s a wrap. Locked the door for the last time and turned over the keys. Farewell my sweet. Over the years, this space held a lot of mine and my family’s life’s work, education, endeavors, joy and celebrations. Much of that has been shared with you. We’ve been honored to hold that space, open the doors and welcome you all!
Thank you so much for being part of it!
Let’s remember it as it is in that last slide, full of friends, food, art and music!
We sure had fun! Now, onto our next adventure, see you there! 🥰

Tip of the hat to our time here on Loyola Ave. The excitement from the last few epic weeks is settling. Though we have ideas for future events heating up, reality is sinking in. We now find ourselves NOT getting ready for another weekend full of music and friends. Instead, we are engaging in the dispersing of the ingredients that made up Archie’s. They seem like ordinary objects, pots and pans, containers and chairs. Yet when we put them all together, and opened the doors, some sort of wizardry happened. These ordinary objects become part of an extraordinary experience. Was it the location? The guests? The staff? The food? The drink? The music? The art? After conversing with a lot of you recently, It seems unanimous, Archie’s was a moment in time that can never be repeated or recreated, and often felt magical. How grateful I am to all you folks who helped bring the magic! To all our guests and friends that came thru and ate and drank and laughed and met friends and saw shows! To consistently terrific staff. To all the musicians and artists who graced us with their talents. To Ravenswood Electric for the generous and ideal buildout (this was an empty storefront when we started.) To Soloman *touttaluck90 our muralist and pal. To the McCarthy and Milano families for their generosity. To the neighbors that enjoyed (and sometimes tolerated) all our music. And to my family and friends, for listening and supporting and listening some more, thank you. Making this little cafe chug along, especially with a pandemic in the middle, was harder than I could’ve ever imagined. The response in these final weeks has made it all worth it. Hearing your stories and what it’s meant to you, seeing the connections and the community that have come from it are what it’s all about. Archie’s will live on in these memories and friendships. Thank you for choosing us as your neighborhood joint, your workplace, your home away from home. It was an honor and, hard work aside, pretty much fun! We won’t have our clubhouse anymore, but plans for next events are brewing. Stay tuned! Keep supporting independent, locally owned small businesses. Many thanks and much love always. ❤️
