Celebrating the feast of Pentecost this week...
Pope Francis gave a beautiful homily for Pentecost today. "In the great journey of life, the Spirit teaches us where to begin, what paths to take, and how to walk."
"The Holy Spirit is an active memory; he constantly rekindles the love of God in our hearts."
"We always remember the things that go wrong; we listen to the voice within us that reminds us of our failures and failings, the voice that keeps saying: “Look, yet another failure, yet another disappointment. You will never succeed; you cannot do it”. This is a terrible thing to be told. Yet the Holy Spirit tells us something completely different. He reminds us: “Have you fallen? You are a son or daughter of God. You are a unique, elect, precious and beloved child. Even when you lose confidence in yourself, God has confidence in you!” This is the “memory” of the Spirit, what the Spirit constantly reminds us: God knows you. You may forget about God, but he does not forget about you."
"The Holy Spirit is practical, he is not an idealist. He wants us to concentrate on the here and now, because the time and place in which we find ourselves are themselves grace-filled. These are they concrete times and places of grace, here and now. That is where the Holy Spirit is leading us."
It's all so good. You can read the full text here: https://www.vatican.va/content/francesco/en/homilies/2022/documents/20220605-omelia-pentecoste.html

About the Berrigan-McAlister Award:
The Berrigan-McAlister Award is given to a person or organization that exemplifies active Christian nonviolence. Such nonviolence is rooted in Jesus's life, which combined the refusal of violence in violent situations with the power of universal love.
From the Civil Rights Movement to the Vietnam War, through the movement against nuclear weapons and beyond, few Catholics in the United States have been more influential than the Berrigan brothers (Daniel and Philip) and Elizabeth McAlister (McAlister married Philip Berrigan and was his lifelong collaborator).
Their work against war and in support of peace — a life of provocative nonviolent protest, extensive writing and teaching, and everyday experiments in intentional community — has earned them international stature in the Church and secular society.
About the Los Angeles Catholic Worker:
DePaul University presents the Fourth Annual Berrigan-McAlister Award to the Los Angeles Catholic Worker (LACW). A part of the worldwide Catholic Worker movement, for more than 50 years the LACW has provided food, shelter, and support to poor and unhoused persons in Los Angeles. It also engages in nonviolent campaigns and civil disobedience focusing on issues ranging from local injustices and racism to war, militarism, climate destruction, and anti-immigrant policies. The LACW publishes
The Catholic Agitator, a bimonthly newspaper in the Catholic radical tradition that provides news, commentary, reviews and updates.
The award was created to honor those whose commitment to ‘gospel nonviolence’ resists injustice, transforms conflict, fosters reconciliation, and seeks justice and peace for all. It is named after Daniel Berrigan, S.J., his brother Philip, and Philip’s wife Elizabeth McAlister.

Our Story
In 1900, only 25% of Catholics lived in the global South—Latin America, Asia, and Africa. By 2000, that number had shifted to nearly 70%.
The Center for World Catholicism and Intercultural Theology (CWCIT) supports interdisciplinary research that addresses this dramatic demographic shift in Catholicism. One of the few of its kind in the world, this leading research center focuses on the relationship between World Catholicism as a historical, social, and religious reality and constructive theological analysis centering on the dialogue of cultures.
CWCIT seeks to be at the forefront of the discussion about the relationship between globalization and the Catholic Church’s future as a truly worldwide Church. Questions of peacemaking and social reconciliation inform CWCIT’s work as well as the style of thinking that characterizes its academic research. Its work consequently promotes tolerance and genuine bonds of solidarity between people whose particular cultural histories are in conflict.
CWCIT‘s inaugural 2008 event was the international conference, “Transformed by Hope: Building a Catholic Social Theology for the Americas,” co-sponsored by Chicago’s Catholic Theological Union. The gathering featured the pastoral leaders of Latin America, Canada and the United States, as well as Rev. Gustavo Gutierrez, a University of Notre Dame theologian and founding father of liberation theology.
