Our Great Dome, Ocean View returns to the rails beginning Thursday, May 5th just in time for the inauguration of steam locomotive #1309.

Ocean View has received a brand-new interior over the winter and Western Maryland Scenic can't wait to share the improvements with you. All-new seating, tables, and chairs have been installed for your trip through Mountain Maryland. We will be sharing teaser photos over the next few weeks.

Ocean View, originally built for the Great Northern Railroad, then utilized by Amtrak, is the pride of our passenger fleet. Enjoy beverages from the full-service bar, hors d'oeuvres, or desert depending on your excursion.

Despite the difficult year, we have a lot to be thankful for. Ocean View hit the rails again with Western Maryland Scenic Railroad, and Stampede Pass finished up being a part of WMSR's Polar Express trips this winter.

SP will undergo some maintenance this winter before traveling across the country to LA in April. Paxrail is working on adding long-distance charters out west in 2022, plus at least one Chicago run in late summer.

We can't wait to see you all back on the rails, experiencing the best of rail travel. Have a safe and healthy New Year; we will see you all again in 2022!

Currently owned by BNSF Railway, this pass was originally built by Northern Pacific Railroad in the late 1800's and is the namesake of our 1950's Budd dome car, PAXX 800290.

DECEMBER 2021: Bruce Kelly takes us trackside to Stampede Pass, marking 25 years since BNSF Railway reversed their decision to close this strategic main line. We won’t need a bigger boat when Dale Woodland takes us back to the mid-1970s to hunt down the elusive Delaware & Hudson Baldwin RF-16 “Sharks!” Michael Burkhart tracks down Amtrak’s 50th anniversary tribute units, and William Hopkins takes us back to the last days of steam in our nation’s capitol.
