My last gig of 2023 was at last night with legendary radio personalities Steve and Johnnie. Not only to promote our Jan 7th, 2024 show but we also had great and emotional moments talking about the ups and downs of 2023. I had the pleasure of doing a couple songs too! Here's to 2023! Peace and Love! We outta here!

Happy Heavenly Birthday to my father Lonnie Brooks! He was Born on December 18th, 1933 during the great depression in Dubisson, Louisiana to sharecropping parents. He was the 1st of 12 children. He worked the fields with his parents until the age of 16 years old then left home by horse and train (hence the song he wrote "The Train & Horse"). Picked up the guitar at 20 years old wrote and recorded his first song a hit song "Family Rules" by 22 years old. Wrote and recorded another hit song "The Crawl" under the stage name Guitar Junior. Inspired guitar slingers such as (who called him his hero), Johnny Winter, Billy Gibbons (ZZ Top), and SRV (through Jimmie). During the 1950s He toured the south a lot with Sam Cooke on various caravan tours. Often toured with BB King and James Brown who used to open the shows for him back then. Moved to Chicago in 1959 played the Southside and Westside blues clubs. in 1969 recorded on Capitol Records, recorded 4 songs "Living Blues Volume 2" with Alligator Records in 1977 then a full length record "Bayou Lightning" which was the start of several records with Alligator Records.

THE GLUE to all of our family's successes! I'm able to be 100% self-sufficient in this sometimes unforgiving music industry because of my mom. I was blessed enough to have started helping her with my dad's enterprise at 14 years of age and I learned a tremendous amount about the behind-the-scenes music business part to be able to sustain my own career today and not have to rely on others. It's all because of her, she made me help her. I didn't know why it was me back then (cause I thought I was the light-skinned Michael Jordan and that's all I was thinking about) but I damn sure know why now! She knew this would be my calling. Thank you, Momma and Dad!!

I owe a lot of thank you's to a lot of people but I recently dedicated my 2023 Chicago Music Award for "Best Blues Entertainer" and my performance at the Ceremony at Harold Washington Cultural Center to my momma!

A very deep heartfelt thank you to all my family, my mom's friends, our friends, and the Blues community for attending my mother's life celebration on Saturday and giving her your last respects. My family truly appreciate all the love and flowers. There were a lot of faces we hadn't seen in such a long time. We appreciate you all. from my childhood to adulthood my mom (bluesmom) made an impact on quite a few people so much we had to add more chairs 😊. My mom passed away last night to be with God, my dad, my 2 sisters Jackie & Linda, my son, her mom, her brother, and finally her dad. She was the only person on this earth to have truly loved me unconditionally. To me she was the strongest woman ever. The world put a lot on her shoulders and she bared it all. If you ever asked her to help you in any kind of way she would have fought the devil or the pope just to help you out if she had to. She loved all of her sons, all of her daughters, and all of her grandchildren. She got to see, hold, and love some of her great grandchildren which was a real blessing. I have a new angel to watch over me as I navigate through this crazy world. My family have a new angel to watch over all of us as she always did but with some heavenly help now. RIP Momma! I love you, your baby boy!

Happy Birthday to BB King -"the King of the Blues" I like to call him Uncle B! He knew my name was Wayne but he used to call me "Lil Lonnie" lol. My dad and BB were great friends since the early 1950s. He was the first to tell my dad that my dad had a hit record being played on all the radio stations non stop.

We were blessed to have shared a lot great experiences with this man. To be the King without having to prove it was a valuable lesson I learned from him. He showed love to any and everyone. Funny as heck too. 🤣
