Bulgarian split squats set up to bias the rear leg, Rectus Femoris in the lengthened position.
Your center of mass shifts to the front leg when you elevate your rear leg. By holding the weight at my chest and raising my front foot up, I’ve shifted my center of mass more to the rear leg.
If I held DB’s down at my sides I’d bias my front leg.
You’ll be much weaker in this position so load accordingly. Your rear leg should give out 1st. If it doesn’t, you’ve not significantly shifted your center of mass to the rear leg.

From the 2019 training files….. I like to use this combo to finish off the medial Delts. -Chest supported Y-raises w/ -“Full can to empty can” lateral raises. (Imagine holding a cup in your hands and pouring it out as you raise arm.)
