Devin Marie Sutter
Hi, I'm Devin Sutter. Welcome to my blog!! Here you'll be updated on the newest blog posts on www.devinmariesutter.com.
I don’t have the right words. But firmly believe silence is not the answer.
-
I confess my deep need to learn, to not stay silent in my privilege.
-
Lord, let there be justice, let there be healing.

We both weathered the beginnings of missing our friends and the ease of high school classes while eating only cafeteria food + snacks from the little mart around the corner. The whole time, dreaming of living in Chi one day.
-
Here we are, both calling this city home.
-
She’s trusted me with her beautiful locks the last 5 years & next time I need my eyes checked you better believe she’s my new eye doctor.
-
Grateful to have my friends sit in my chair each week, there’s something sweet about the trust it shows as they invest their time and money into having the hair they’re dreaming of.
My Valentine. My love. My best friend.
I love you every day Joseph Ambrose, but I’ll hug ya extra today 🖤

We invited people to experience the beginnings of last night. It was the first step involving people from outside our team, the first step in widening the community, the first step in letting people in on the vision that we’ve put so much thought and heart into.
-
I’m still processing it all, but feeling grateful for those who showed up to hear our vision and give us feedback.

Hello New Orleans 👋🏻
-
Can’t wait to explore 26.2 miles of you tomorrow.
I grew up with , thanks to our moms we were buds as little ones. So when I received a message from her saying she had moved to Chicago and would love to get her hair done by me, I was thrilled. Flash forward several months and she reached out to get photos of her, Alex and their three pups.
-
We wandered in the West Loop on a chilly Sunday morning. Head to my stories to see more of this sweet crew.
If you missed it on my stories a few days ago.. take a look at one of my favorite transformations yet!! Swipe to see the before.

These jaw dropping long blonde locks made possible thanks to Sew-in Weft Extensions.

I’m absolutely loving this new service I’ve added to my days. 🙌🏻 @ Thrive Hair Collective

Feeling an abundance of joy by this man’s side lately 🖤

was among the many places we went to while in Kansas City. It’s a coffee shop not far from & current space in KC.
-
It’s a beautiful space. & their coffee was 👌🏻
-
Rachel & Andrew sipped on one of their seasonal lattes & cortados. ☕️
Spent the weekend in ’s new home, Kansas City. It’s no surprise that we made time to wander, find the light & capture one another. ✨

Time with this sister-friend was a gift. Grateful for experiencing new things in her new city, for delicious food & drink, & for a whole lot of heart talks.

Those shoes right there will be crossing the finish line of 26.2 number 7 with me.

I completed my peak training run yesterday morning, in less than ideal conditions. It certainly had me dreaming about the weather we will hopefully have in New Orleans on race day.
-
This training season flew by. It felt far more peaceful than some seasons in the past, the runs felt far less a burden to my weekly rhythm than in the past. I prioritized more rest surrounding long runs, I intuitively listened to what my body was signaling me to eat, I didn’t cut out journaling to make my runs work.
-
Grateful for the journey that distance running has taken me on in the last 6 years.
The last year & a half was dreamt of, planned for, & prayed about. I’ve been meeting with a team of individuals each Tuesday to put words to the vision of a co-being space, a place for community to be built & grown.

You’re invited to Co-Be’s Launch Party. Join us for light refreshments and libations as we cast our vision for being a haven for creatives, dreamers, leaders, and entrepreneurs desiring community, connectivity, and self-discovery.
-
We’ll be hanging out in a West Town gallery space. This event will be a great opportunity to not only mingle with like-minded folks but also contribute to the development of Co-Be. There will be a Q&A. And believe we want to hear from you because this is for you.

Just slightly obsessed with my new hair 🤗
-
just released their new Sew-In Weft Extensions earlier this month, & my immediate reaction was I’M IN! So last week I ordered hair and spent an afternoon custom coloring it to make it blend seamlessly with my color.
-
Sunday afternoon not only installed, blended & PERFECTED my hair, but also taught me the method! I’m beyond excited to start offering this service to clients, as I’m already totally hooked to having this hair in and I know so many ladies who would love it!
Real talk, we’ve fumbled through December.
-
Starting with a rocky arrival back into the city from Ohio after Thanksgiving. We jumped into high expectations (🙋♀️) for the Christmas season, amidst finals + a heavy workload for him & the busiest season in the salon + marathon training for me.
-
It’s been filled with less patience, more snaps, less lightheartedness, more frustration, less Christmas activities around the city, more falling asleep during a movie on the couch.
-
We both agree that is been a month of lessons, that we hope to grow from. We also both agree, that we couldn’t be happier to both have calm schedules after 4PM today, for a week & a half!!
-
Grateful for a man who stays when life is hard, who presses into messy moments to glean lessons from them, who reminds me constantly that I am loved & seen & heard even when my heart & mind feel alone.
📷
Not sure when my nieces stopped being babies... but this photo gives me all the feels.
They. Are. Perfect. ❤️
I’ve been spending time this week thinking through my time in Ohio. Trying to find the balance between rest & seeing the people & places I love.
-
My current goals are:
Less car time
Less things packed into the days, more days dedicated to one thing / person
More sweatpants
More slow mornings
-
I’ve also promised myself to put big time buffers between things, rather than being planned to the minute.
-
Anyone else struggle with creating space for rest while home for the holidays? 🙋♀️
I can’t help but smile each time I interact with Genevieve. She’s full of s***k & personality. And rocked this bow just perfectly for her family pictures. ❤️🖤
The most joyful little crew.
-
I remember meeting the oldest of the three ladies while she was a little babe in the nursery at church. Since then their family has grown, and became sweeter & full of more smiles each year.
-
Also beyond grateful for neighborhood walks & coffee shop talks with that mama, even though it’s not often enough she’s a special part of my Chicago Fam.
The littlest one of the Voth bunch was wide eyed all afternoon a few weeks ago as I captured their family.
But really Jimmy is the orig hipster.
That icy lavender & blush pink combo.. YES PLEASE. 🙌🏻
Missio Dei. A place I’ve called home for almost 6 years. A place that’s been through quite a journey of change & challenge in 2019. A place I look still look forward to stepping into every Sunday morning, through every season.
-
Melissa spoke about the tension between the expectations for this season amidst the brokenness all around us. That feeling of rushing to feel joy & peace & love, while maybe feeling a lack of all three.
-
It hit home. & the rest of the day was filled of me fumbling through attempts to experience both rest and the spirit & excitement of the season, while setting aside the words that had soaked into me that morning.
-
I say that because sometimes sermons are just what we need, and the moment we walk out of the door we jump head first into life forgetting the heart of everything we heard. Grateful for grace upon grace in those moments, grateful for community to both call you out & walk by your side in those moments.
Happy Saturday!
-
One week left at the salon before I take off until the new year for a year end recharge.
-
I’ve had a few last minute cancellations which means I have a few last minute openings, message me if you’re in need of a pre-holiday appointment!
& she’s just about the cutest little lady.. and maybe a tiny bit more camera shy than her big brother.
& now he’s got a little sister he adores.
My dear friend Laura asked me to photograph her little family a few weeks back. I was beyond honored to be trusted with capturing her sweet family during this season of life.
-
It’s extra special because, I’ve babysat this little guy since he was a few months old.
Coffee in hand & Ohio bound.
Blurry morning pic with my love.
-
Grateful for the hours in the car en route to Ohio, the car talks & car jams & quiet moments.
-
One year ago, we hopped in the car eager to spend our first holiday weekend together. One year later, so much has changed but he’s still by my side. 🖤
Something I love most about running in the colder temperatures is the solitude and silence of the early morning runs on the lakefront.
-
Don’t get me wrong, a bustling lakefront path is special in its own way.. but a quiet lakefront path is rare & beautiful in the city.
This Monday looks different from my usual Monday’s... in the salon & booked solid.
-
You know what that means, it’s holiday season! Looking forward to getting all my clients ready for Thanksgiving until Wednesday, then heading to Ohio.
-
Did this Balayage a couple of weeks ago, and I’m still swooning over it!!
