👻 Here’s a recap of the Halloween season at The Commons this year! 🎃 The day before Halloween we had a pumpkin painting station and were blown away by the creativity 🎨 Halloween day, we had face painting and airbrush tattoos done by for everyone to get into the spooky season along with our own version of trick-or-treating in the form of a candy bar! 🍭 We hope you all enjoyed the spooky season this year! 😁

☀️ Two days ago, we had our Wellness Wednesday event with our Feel Good Food of the month, squash. At this event we had some zucchini and pumpkin bread for people to try as well as a specialized menu highlighting some dishes that had squash in them. 😋

🎃 We also had a pumpkin on display where if you were able to guess the weight of the pumpkin correctly you could win an IIT Beanie. 🎁 The actual weight of the pumpkin was 9.5 lbs or 9.4 kgs and we had a two-way tie between Tymur Seidaliiev and Mustafa Hasan who both guessed 9.4 kg!

As Hispanic Heritage Month wraps up, we're excited to spotlight Mario, one of our amazing cooks at The Commons. Originally from Michoacán, Mexico, Mario has been part of the Illinois Tech Dining team since 2002, sharing his passion for cooking that started in 1973. Inspired by his father’s culinary skills, he loves preparing dishes that remind him of home—especially quesabirria tacos. One of his favorite traditions is celebrating Christmas with family, where they gather to cook a variety of special dishes together.

Last week, Mario showcased his talents by cooking the meal for our Hispanic Heritage Month menu feature in The Commons. Thank you, Mario, for sharing your culture and passion with us. 🙌

This past week, we celebrated —a week dedicated to showing appreciation for our dining associates. 🙌 From special surprises to recognition awards, we took time to honor the amazing work they do every day to keep the Illinois Tech community fueled and happy. Thank you for all you do! 💙
