Celebrating 16 official years in the hair industry!

To those of you who don’t know me, I wanted to take a moment to formally introduce myself and share my journey with all of you. My name is Marissa, and I’m the face behind mbhair.co.

It all began when I started cosmetology school a few months after I graduated from high school in 2006. Since day one, I have always enjoyed color, but I was more cutting-focused until about 2014 when Instagram started to take off in the industry. I started following hair colorists and I immediately knew which direction I wanted to go. Growing up I was a total “art kid” and color theory came very natural to me, which is a crucial skill to be a successful hair colorist.

I was fortunate enough to quickly land a job at a color-focused salon, working alongside the owner. Initially, he planned for me to assist him for three months, but he quickly recognized my skill set and confidence. Within two weeks, I was taking on my own color clients.

Fast forward to early 2018 when I made the bold decision to go off on my own. I rented a salon suite and embarked on a year and a half of independence. It was exactly what I needed at the time, but something was missing... the camaraderie, and daylight! My suite had NO DAYLIGHT 😭

Luckily, my best friend and her business partner who were in the same suite building, decided to open their own salon, Spruce, which is where I currently reside.

In recent years, I have become extremely passionate about the world of hair extensions and helping people to build their confidence. I love being able to combine those skills along with my knowledge of color to deliver a completely customized experience for my clients.

I’m beyond grateful for this journey and the opportunities it has brought my way. But most importantly, I’m thankful for everyone who has supported me along the way. Your friendship, encouragement, and endless positivity have fueled my passion and kept me going.
