Salma Abedin Prithi, from the series "Dear Love," 2011-2018.
Reminder that "LOVE: Still Not the Lesser" closes on Friday, December 22. This beautiful exhibition features artists Alia Ali, Alicia Bruce, Jorian Charlton, Jess T. Dugan, Jorge Ariel Escobar, Mari Katayama, Kierah KIKI King, Mous Lamrabat, Tom Merilion, Salma Abedin Prithi, Modou Dieng Yacine, and Yuge Zhou. Led by Asha Iman Veal, MoCP's Associate Curator.
Themes of visibility and adoration recur as concepts embraced by many of the LOVE photographers, as they use portraiture and self-portraiture to affirm many different types of bodies as divinely worthy of enjoying gentle care and affection. The exhibition presents love as a universal value of respect and care for all humans.

The Lecture in Photography with Curran Hatleberg on Wednesday, November 29 is cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances. We look forward to having you join us and the Photography Department at Columbia College Chicago for our Lectures in Photography series in 2024. Thank you.
Join us on Wed., Nov. 29 for Lecture in Photography with Curran Hatleberg. The presentation starts at 6 pm at 600 S. Michigan Ave.
Curran Hatleberg is a photographer based in Baltimore, MD. Many of Hatleberg’s works document smaller towns and rural areas around the U.S. from the people and animals who live in the communities to buildings and landscapes.
In an interview with "The Guardian" (Sean O'Hagan, June 26, 2022) about Hatleberg's "River's Dream' monograph, he discusses his approach....
“I like to have a deep connection with the people I photograph and that requires time,” he says of his immersive approach. “Often, I was awed by people’s openness and trust. When a door opens, I go all the way in, as deep as they will allow. I travel with them, talk with them, have meals with them. And, from the get-go, the camera is always present, so there is no misunderstanding. It’s a strange tool because it tends to annihilate distance rather than accentuate it. I find that it’s often a way of cutting through.”
---
Hatleberg's work has been exhibited at MASS MoCA, ICP as well as the Whitney Biennial. His works are held in numerous public collections, including the Whitney Museum of American Art, and the SF MoMA. He is the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship and a Magnum Emergency grant. "Lost Coast," his first monograph, was released in 2016, and his second monograph, "River’s Dream," was published in 2022.
Lectures in Photography are co-presented by MoCP and the Photography Department at Columbia College Chicago.
