She also serves as faculty at Garret theological seminary on the Northwestern campus. She was recognized at the White House as a leading Muslim woman and in 2014 she became the first woman to represent the United States at the International Quran Competition in Indonesia where she placed 6th place in the World. Ahmad has been featured widely in various media networks; most notably in the national PBS documentary, 'The Calling', which portrays the struggle of faith in the 21st century for leaders from the Jewish, Christian, and Muslim faiths. A renowned speaker, Ahmad has worked closely with the U.S. Justice and State departments leading both national and international workshops on cultural awareness of Muslims and religious diversity. Chaplain Ahmad is a passionate social justice advocate and was featured as the keynote speaker for the 50th Anniversary of the Civil Rights Movement in commemoration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in Chicago. He also teaches Islam & politics and international relations at Loyola University Chicago. He received his PhD in Arabic and Islamic studies, graduating with distinction from Cheikh Anta Diop University in Dakar, Senegal, and has earned degrees from various institutions including Sorbonne Nouvelle University in Paris and Cambridge University. He was also a Fulbright scholar with residence at Loyola University Chicago.His fields of research include Islam in Africa, Islamic banking and finance, Islamic law of contract, Islam and politics, world history, and international relations. Imam Bio: Dr. Zainab Alwani is the Founding Director and the first Associate Professor of Islamic Studies at Howard University School of Divinity (HUSD). She is also the chair of the Master of Arts (Religious Studies) program at HUSD. Dr. Alwani received her Ph.D. in Islamic Sciences and Islamic Jurisprudence from the International Islamic University in Malaysia. Her Ph.D. dissertation focused on the implementation of the higher aims of Islamic law (Maqāṣid al Shariah) within the domain of the American Muslim family. She has authored and co-authored a wide variety of publications ranging from books, textbooks and book chapters, to scholarly articles. Imam Bio: Shaykh Tariq Musleh is a graduate from the prestigious Madinah University where he attained his Associate degree in Arabic and Bachelors Degree from the College of Sharia. He completed his memorization of Quran at the age of 13 and went on to receive ijaza from Palestine. He studied Classical Arabic at the Fajr Center in Egypt. Shaykh Tariq has worked as a part time instructor for Islamic Learning Foundation Chicago, where he taught Quran and Arabic studies. Imam Bio: Omar Hedroug was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan and raised in Chicago. He attended The Islamic Foundation School in Villa Park and then graduated from Benedictine University on a Pre-Med track. While in high school and college, Omar had the opportunity to study the Islamic sciences under various local scholars. While in college, Omar was accepted as a scholarship student at the Islamic university of Madinah. He completed an Associates Degree in the Arabic language and a Bachelors Degree from the College of Shariah, graduating with the highest honors from the faculty of Islamic Law. While in Madinah, he also attended classes at the Prophet's mosque studying the various Islamic sciences. He recently moved back to Chicago where he resides with his family. Imam Bio: Shaykh Azfar Uddin graduated with a Bachelor's degree from Benedictine University.He is currently writing his thesis on "How Imams can survive and possibly thrive while working in the masjid".He completed his memorization of the Quran at the age of 12. He returned to the Institute of Islamic Education to pursue his goal in becoming an Islamic scholar and completed the ‘Alimiyyah Program which is a five-year, post-secondary program designed to train its students in the classical foundation of the Islamic sciences. He completed the last two years of the ‘Alim program including the Dawrah al-Hadith year from Darul Uloom Online. He is currently obtaining a Masters in Islamic Theology from American Islāmic College. Shaykh Azfar has been awarded many awards for his leadership qualities, excellence in teaching, and his service to the community. In addition to delivering enlightening lectures at various mosques, high schools and universities, Shaykh Azfar is the CEO of Concise Advice, a YouTube channel geared towards teaching different aspects of Islam consisting of Muslim scholars, students of knowledge, doctors, lawyers and Muslim professionals.
