Almost two decades ago, Intonation Music began with a car full of instruments and youth who were eager to learn, play, explore, and find their own voice. Many thanks to Mesler Kitchen / Bar / Lounge for paying it forward to Intonation this Juneteenth! For every Black-owned spirit sold from June 1-18, $1 was donated to our programs. The proceeds from a remarkable 560 drinks will help our team bring more music to our area’s youth. We are so grateful for our community’s supportive, imaginative, and generous spirit!

We'd like to introduce our Summer Intensive workshop leaders!

Amber Denae is an energetic songwriter, creative, supporting vocalist, and educator from the west side of Chicago. She is known for her colorful range and expressive personality. She has performed all around the Chicago music scene, including festivals like Lollapalooza and spaces like the House of Blues and WGN News. She enjoys collaborating and building with local performance platforms and artists. Her love of jazz and soul has deeply influenced her writing and her live sets are centered around dissecting relationships experiences, radical self-love, and spiritual discovery. Amber will teach an Advanced Vocal Workshop during our All-Star Summer Intensive!

Janet Rodriguez, aka Janesita, is a music producer and DJ from Chicago, known for her inspiring performances and parties. She also produces and hosts Radio Muévelo on Lumpen Radio (105.5 FM), an independent Chicago radio station. Her show features guest artists like Foudeqush from the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever soundtrack, among others to highlight Latin American artists around the world. Janet will lead a field trip to Lumpen Radio for our Teen Summer Intensive!

Brennan Mitrolka is a musician, composer, and audio engineer from Western Massachusetts. He received a B.A. in Music from Skidmore College in 2018, and came to Chicago for the opportunity to continue making and teaching music. He was trained as a jazz saxophonist but continues to learn new instruments and computer programs. In addition to teaching, he is currently mixing sound for concerts and working on his first solo project. Brennan will teach a Music Production and Digital Tools workshop for our Teen Summer Intensive!

The rain did not stop 300 attendees from seeing our students perform at Mixtape Live! Thank you so much to Chicago Park District and for co-presenting this event with us! Thank you to our sponsor, Hyde Park Bank, to CircEsteem, Quicktastic, and Zion Ali for being amazing guest performers, and to the many community organizations who came to table at the event. Thank you to Tzoe Skye for face painting and Hyde Park Art Center for engaging our community in artmaking. Most of all, thank you to our incredibly talented students and their families, we couldn't have done this without you!
