K9 4 KEEPS
K9 4 KEEPS believes that bringing a dog into your home should be for life, for keeps. For keeps.
K9 4 KEEPS believes that bringing a dog into your family should be forever. We are a 100% volunteer run, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to dog rescue. We believe rescue should begin with education and counseling of dog owners regarding proper handling and training of their dogs to support positive, forever relationships. K9 4 KEEPS dogs are surrendered by their owners or rescued from Chicagoland area kill shelters and are provided vetting, housing, foster and adoption services.

Freddie Update:
First, we would like to send a huge thank you to everyone who shared Freddie when we were desperately searching for a new foster.
Freddie was with our rescue for a year and a half. He had two fosters, three trainers, a dog walker, and many people who really loved following him.
Unfortunately, we did not have any applications for Freddie that would have been a good match. We do our very best to find the best forever homes for our dogs, and for whatever reason, we could not seem to find one for Freddie.
Ultimately, after weeks of pleading for help, we had to make a decision. We are a 100% foster-based rescue, so when a foster doesn’t step up, we are in a tough spot.
We reached out to a few rescues to see if anyone could help with boarding, but everyone was full.
At the very last moment, we reached out to Border Tails Rescue. Thankfully, they had an opening, and we had the opportunity to transfer Freddie to their rescue.
We feel that this will be the best option for Freddie. He will be well cared for by a reputable rescue; he will get tons of exposure, and he will find a great forever home.
We will continue to follow Freddie’s journey and will maintain open lines of communication with Border Tails. They have been incredibly helpful to us and to Freddie, and we will remain in contact.
Freddie is deeply loved by everyone here at K94Keeps, and we will always care about him and his future.
Rescue is overwhelmingly challenging, but this last year and a half has been especially difficult for a multitude of reasons.
We truly appreciate everyone who supports us through shares, volunteering, attending events, and donations.
We cannot do what we do without support from our community.
Thank you from all of us at K94Keeps.
WE ARE DESPERATE! WE HAVE 24 HOURS! Please help! Freddie’s foster can no longer care for him. He needs a new foster home by June 10th! PLEASE HELP US FIND FREDDIE A NEW FOSTER!

Lechito is dog friendly, kid friendly, people friendly, activity friendly, and ready for his forever home!
Freddie is a young (~3 years), energetic dog looking for his forever home. He is potty trained and crate trained, capable of being home during a typical 9-5 work schedule. At dinner time, he will either cuddle up with his human on the couch to watch TV (he also likes to calmly watch the screen!), or lay on his cot.
He's playful and enjoys a variety of activities, including: fetch, chase, tug, going on walks, running alongside his human, hiking, GRC sports (wall climb, spring pole, weight pull), shredding stuffed dog toys, pack walks with his foster dog sibling, and cuddling. While he has not pursued disc, he would likely enjoy a disc sport such as UpDog or Freestyle. He will do almost anything for a tennis ball and loves when his people chase him after he retrieves it. Freddie is a fast learner and is food motivated, though he'd prefer to work in exchange for play time or enthusiastic affection rather than treats.
While he has the desire and capability to play, hike, or run for hours, he can be fulfilled with a few 10 min play or training sessions each day.
He can be nervous in new environments, though he is gaining confidence and will continue to do so as his family takes him to more locations. He is muzzle trained for veterinary visits and in case of emergency.
Freddie attends structured dog socials run by a dog trainer and is quickly learning appropriate dog socialization and body language. While he would prefer to be an only pet, he could successfully live with another dog if his family has experience with bully breeds and/or is proactive in reaching out to a trainer to help integrate him into the home safely. He has a high drive and should not go to a home with smaller animals.
Freddie loves belly rubs and wants nothing more than to be by his family's side. He is socially sensitive with a gentle soul, so his human's approval or disappointment means a great deal to him, and he will adjust his behavior accordingly. Due to his energetic nature, he would do best with an adult-only, or adult and teenage family.
