Our Story

Merchant & Rhoades was originally open in 1989 as "Truefitt & Hill Chicago" by the late Kirk Merchant. It was modeled on the upscale gentlemen’s barbers of Jermyn Street, London. In 2013, the Merchant family decided to change the company name in his honor. "Merchant" is the family name, and "Rhoades" is the maiden name of Kirk's wife Patrice. Today the entire Merchant family is actively involved in the business including Kirk's eldest son, and second-generation barber, Kirk.

Since it's inception Merchant & Rhoades has been barber to Chicago “royalty”, including top executives, politicians, professionals, and local celebrities. At Merchant & Rhoades you can experience true luxury in a relaxing atmosphere unmatched by any other barbershop in the country.

Merchant & Rhoades also boasts one of the Midwest’s finest collections of niche men’s fragrance, displayed in it’s antique mahogany apothecary along with a large collection of imported shaving creams, shaving brushes, straight razors, hairbrushes and combs, and many other fine men’s grooming products.
