10 years ago today, I opened EXFOLĒ8 on Madison Street.
Over the last decade, I have been on quite a journey. First, I downsized from 2700 sq ft to 500 sq ft and went from 12+ employees to one (me). I reinvented my skincare career vs running a full service day spa. There have been many highs & lows and with each obstacle tackled, Exfole8 and I became stronger & smarter.

Today, I am proud to look at my schedule and see it filled with familiar names and new names I am eager to meet.

Knowing that I built my dream by myself, with no money in the bank and begging a guy at National City Bank to give me a chance makes it 1000x sweeter. 🍭🍭🍭

I cherish the humans that I have helped and that helped me along the way.

Hello, I’m Dayna DeLaurentis, Licensed Esthetician and owner of Exfolē8 in Chicago, IL. I have been an Esthetician for 20+ years. I began my career in a hair salon, spent time at few private clubs, The Peninsula Hotel and worked for a plastic surgeon all before opening a full service day spa, Urban Spa Chic. As the industry changed, it was time to refocus on my personal life, and my passion for skin care, and moved on to open Exfolē8, A specialty Skincare Clinic. My clients range from multi generations of families, current adolescents struggling with skin conditions and individuals that want to keep their appearance fresh and healthy. One of my favorite services to offer is Microcurrent (Facial Rejuvenation). I find it is very important to educate clients on proper skin care, especially since there is a lot of false information floating around.

Do you ever wonder which amount of SPF is enough or even what it stands for? Did you know that many do not know how to be sun safe?

As it is getting warmer in and the sun has been out a lot lately ( ), it is important to get out this friendly reminder.

The sun emits two types of Ultra violet rays, UVA and UVB.

UVA rays are aging rays. They affect the dermis which is the lower layers of the skin. These layers are being broken down when we are in the sun. We will not see the effects this has done for years.

UVB rays are the “burning” rays and affect the epidermis. The SPF chart informs us
with proper application of SPF how long you can stay in the sun and have protection.

It is very important to put a broad spectrum SPF into your daily regime to prevent things such as:
•Premature aging
•Skin cancer
•Age spots

Who needs it?
Everyone. Many people say I don’t go outside much or it’s overcast. It needs to be on EVERY DAY PEEPS!

The suns ultraviolet rays are out every day of the year, and on a cloudy day, they can measure out at 80%.
Sand and snow can reflect the suns rays too.

UVA rays come through glass windows in your home and car.

There are medications that can increase photosensitivity .
Some medication categories are:
•Antibiotics
•Diuretics
•Decongestants,
Cancer
•Diabetes
•Hormones including BCP
•Retinols & other topical acne meds
•Cardiovascular
•Pain relievers
•Psychiatric drugs

Where, when and with what should I apply it?
Everywhere! Don’t skimp on your ears, back of the neck, lips, between your toes and top of the head!

Apply 15-20 mins before going outside or when getting dressed.

Reapplication is crucial. Every 2-2.5 hours and after sweating or swimming an additional SPF is needed.

•••1 shot glass = 1 full body application (head to toe)•••

Sun Protection comes in creams, gels, lotions, sprays, sticks and powders (for face).

Physical SPF is preferred over chemical because it acts as a shield by sitting on the surface of the skin and deflecting UV rays.

As you can see by our chart, a minimum SPF 30 is recommend.

The 𝔽𝕆ℝ𝔼ℍ𝔼𝔸𝔻 represents the Nervous system and is influenced by the INTESTINES.
Conditions such as leaky gut, SIBO, bacteria imbalance, IBS represent poor intestinal health.

𝕋𝔼𝕄ℙ𝕃𝔼𝕊- Grooves, lines, growths of progressive acne are signs of 𝔹𝕃𝔸𝔻𝔻𝔼ℝ / 𝕂𝕀𝔻ℕ𝔼𝕐 imbalances e.g. UTI.

According to Aryvedic medicine, the dosa, VATA is located on the top 1/3 of the head. VATA means “to move” and when in balance things like creativity flow. It’s elements are space and air. Vata governs movement in the body, the activities of the nervous system, and the process of elimination.

What this tells us about the internal workings of the body is that it is experiencing high levels of stress, which, in turn, leads to a build-up of toxins, causing constipation, (lack of movement) which then shows up as dry, dehydrated skin.

VATA skin imbalances - dry, dehydrated skin and feels congested with a bumpy texture.

🧴Lotions and potions that are hydrophilic (water loving), ceramides & healthy oils topically and internally along with EXCELLENT barrier support is crucial for beautiful looking skin! 🧖🏼‍♀️
