Chicago Marathon runners are running down Cermak for mile 20 and directly past Skylark. Get a buzz going and then holler while your friend/loved one runs by. We will open the doors at 10:30 and serve brunch 11am-3pm. Average runners might pass by around 11-12pm. Feel free to camp out on the sidewalk earlier if you know a fast one then come inside when we unlock the door :)
Our old gal Skylark turns 21 this year, which means she’s old enough to drink (finally). Come by on Friday October 25th to see the spookified space, get yourself a new Skylark hoodie, and *literally* buy Skylark a shot of your choice...every shot will be dumped into a poison vat and at midnight we will share a disgusting surprise with those brave enough to face it. What’s spooky season without a little something to make you shake in your boots? Halloween costumes encouraged. Happy birthday to a Chicago legend!

From 1959 to 1985, 2149 S. Halsted was Cozzie’s and was run by the Cozzie family. A whole mess of them came to see us Saturday and Jack Cozzie told us some wild stories about bartending there. For example, there used to be a two-way mirror behind the bar that owner Adolph Cozzie would look through from the other side to monitor during a time with lots of robberies, they cashed paychecks on Fridays right there in the bar, and one time during a holdup Adolph shot 2 robbers that held up the place. It was incredible to talk to them about it and we are so glad they came to see us. They got to try our famous tots (they said they were the best they’ve ever had) and Jack pulled a scary doll out of the basement to taunt his big sister Mary Kate with it. Thanks so much to the Cozzie’s for sharing their stories with us.
We love learning about the history of our building. If you have information about Rio’s, La Inca, or any of the other things this building has housed over the past 100 years, please get in touch with us about it!
We were featured in Plate magazine’s article, “How Former Bar and Restaurant Owners orders Take Over the Reins as Owners.” Thank you !
