D'Angelo Law Library
The law library at the University of Chicago.
Thrilled to see a familiar face in the recent Law School Musical! Read what critics are saying about ’s performance:
“Schreder’s Vanderlin is a revelation.”
“Julia Schreder’s star turn as Vanderlin elevates the source material with a welcome dose of humanity.”
“Two words: Must. Ache.”
“LSM newcomer Schreder breathes new life into the character of Vanderlin for the next generation of theatergoers.”
“Better than the original!”
As always the show was a blast. Big round of applause for everyone involved in the production of this year’s musical. 👏👏👏
This week, Café D’Angelo will take a moment to remember the exams of our youth, while looking ahead to those yet to come. Stop by to reflect, and to prepare for the times ahead. Also, coffee and snacks.
Love is in the air (and on the ground…sorry building maintenance) at Café D’Angelo this morning. Always nice to have an extra reason to show how much we ADORE our students. XOXO
LOOK WHO’S BACK!
School is back in session, which means Café D’Angelo has opened its doors for the Autumn season. Stop by Thursday mornings for cold brew and good vibes!
Good news and bad news.
It’s the last Cafe D’Angelo of the year 😢
BUT
That means it’s Exam Prep Day 🥳
Stop by for past exams, fuel to help you study, or just to say hey.
Good luck with exams!

10 million downloads! Thanks to our UChicago Law academic community for producing such high quality legal scholarship, and for readers around the world who have downloaded their work.
Here's to the next 10 million!
Chicago Unbound Hits 10 Million Downloads | University of Chicago Law School In 2013, the D'Angelo Law Library launched a program to create a digital repository that preserves and provides access to University of Chicago Law School scholarship. The name 'Chicago Unbound' was chosen for the repository to illustrate a philosophy of providing unfettered access to knowledge that...

And just like that, you traded orientation t-shirts for graduation robes. Trust us—it goes as fast for us in the library as it does for all of you.
3 years ago a group of strangers looked up at the library, smiled, and a photo was taken. Now we can look back down and smile at the family you’ve become.
Heartfelt CONGRATULATIONS to the UChicago Law Class of 2022. When you think back on your law school journey, we hope you think fondly of The D’Angelo Law Library. We hope we’ve helped along the way. And we hope you’ll come back to visit someday. We’ll always be here.
Now, go do great things. We’re counting on you.
A legal treatise is a detailed scholarly publication covering all of the law on a given topic. Often, you will see a prominent scholar’s name attached to a title on a particular subject, lending an added layer of credibility. Treatises are one of the most detailed examples of a secondary source in the context of legal research.
D’Angelo Reference Librarians are available to suggest relevant treatises for your area of research. You can also consult any of the helpful research guides on our website for additional assistance.

A notable (and regrettable) omission from last week’s emailed list of escapees was Team Kelly, Kyra & Kathleen! This group took the time to send a FOIA request as a plea for help, which was part of a long and entertaining dialogue throughout the contest. Congrats on your escape!
“Please find attached a three-part oeuvre showing our progression through the stages of solving your escape room. In the first, you see us as we are in the evenings: poised, thoughtful, elegant. The second shows us on a cozy weeknight: casual, at ease, inquisitive. The third . . . well, the third was when you broke us. The third depicts our unraveling. The ravages of SuDoc had us in their clutches. We had received a response to our FOIA that gave us a redacted answer. We hit rock bottom. But from the ashes we rose, stronger because of the adversity we faced as a united apartment.
Thank you for creating this puzzle which led to deep personal growth, increased legal research knowledge, and strengthened friendships.”
No, ladies. Thank you.
Huge congrats to Team Kelsey & Lauren—for their successful escape, and for managing to snap the perfect photo to commemorate the experience. Incredible job, you two!
“We look forward to seeing the picture alongside recognition of our victory! This is genuinely the only thing I have accomplished this week.” -Kelsey
She may not have been the first to successfully escape, but Kaleigh was the first INDIVIDUAL to make it out on her own. We’ll let the Internet decide what’s more impressive...
“The library’s virtual escape room was the perfect real escape from the pandemic and all my classwork. I had a blast puzzling and even learned a few things along the way!”
Team Lucy, Megan & Molly crossed the finish line just 11 minutes after our first successful escape! Huge congrats to this team!
“The Library’s Escape Room was incredible. I love puzzles, and this one was meticulously structured and detailed to perfection. It was a fantastic way to have some fun and learn a little about the Law School’s history in the process.” -Lucy
“What a fun activity!! I wish you could see the messages we sent back and forth trying to decode all of the clues. Or the squeals with each correct answer.” -Molly
“We had a total blast!” -Megan
Following up on our previous post congratulating Team Ellen & Kelly on their “virtual escape,” here are some more thoughts on the challenge!
“This was such a fun way to explore the Library’s and University’s websites and learn more about the school. I think it’s so easy to rely on [insert your favorite legal research database] for all of your research, so it was a nice way to remember that there are so many other ways to conduct research (whether through the library or just googling).” -Kelly
The D’Angelo Law Library is pleased to announce that the first team to finish the inaugural D’Angelo Virtual Escape Room was Team Ellen & Kelly! We were unbelievably impressed by all who completed this challenge (more features to come), but special congratulations are in order for Ellen & Kelly for being the first to cross the finish line. Way to go, you two!
“It’s ironic that the theme is ‘Escape from the Library’ when we’re all, in fact, hoping to one day do the opposite and all be back together again!” -Ellen
“I didn’t realize how many resources the library has for students. This was a clever way to get us to discover the time capsule exhibits and the dissertation database (of published and unpublished works).” -also Ellen
