The year was 1935 when Tom Gibbons’ father opened the first Gibbons Funeral Home on the west side of Chicago. Today there are three Gibbons Funeral Homes, all family owned and operated. The Elmhurst location was founded in 1960, and the firm on the northwest side of Chicago was established in 1973. The Gibbons family also owns and operates The Oaks Funeral Home in Itasca, founded in 1987.

PEOPLE HAVE BE BECOME MUCH MORE COMFORTABLE PRE PLANNING THEIR OWN ARRANGEMENTS.
Over time, people have become more used to, and more comfortable with pre-planning and pre-arranging their own funeral services, according to GFFH Funeral Director Judy Bryant, on the Northwest side of Chicago. "It's become a much easier and more comfortable conversation", is how Judy describes this process, adding, "it's such a relief to families knowing that their loved ones thought ahead to make decisions from prayer cards, prayers, songs, even caskets and flowers, to all of the details that often even their closest loved ones don't know the answer to".
Judy is from the neighborhood, went to school here, and is very active in local community events. Being so familiar with so many of the folks here, gives them tremendous added confidence that their plans will be carried out to the letter. The family will be spared the burden of "guessing" any details or preferences. As a Pre Plan Specialist, Judy knows just how to move through the process with compassion and efficiency, ensuring the Planner understands every option available. You can contact Judy at GFFH, and have a "no obligation" consultation on Pre Plan Arrangements at your convenience. She's your neighbor as are all of us at the Gibbons Family Funeral Home.
At Need or Pre-plan, we’ll answer all of your questions and ensure you know every single choice you have to honor your loved one. We are the Gibbons Family. Your neighbor and your friends, and when you need us to be, your professionals to guide you through the most difficult decisions you may ever have to make.

PEOPLE HAVE A LOT MORE OPTIONS THAN THEY KNOW THEY DO
Families have many options when it comes to final disposition. Whether it's Burial, Cremations, or Memorials. Especially with Cremations, people often don't realize they can still have a full visitation with an open casket, and proceed to a funeral mass either with a casket prior to Cremation, or with a Cremation urn after the visitation.. A fair number of people misunderstand the Catholic Church's position on Cremation, recognizing it as an accepted form of disposition. Often, the understanding is, "you just cremate and that's it". That may even be the ultimate wish of the loved one who passed, without any other direction. If that's what is desired, we will do just that. Many people are relieved to find out there are many different options to honor their loved ones that still result in the final disposition of Cremation. At Gibbons Family Funeral Home, we're your friends, and neighbors, in the neighborhood. Friends, parishioners and fellow community members who are often called to assist families in need, and many people who are "just wondering" what options they have. They often say "Information is Power". While that is likely very true, according to Michael Gibbons, "Information is Comfort".
At Need or Pre-plan, we'll answer all of your questions and ensure you know every single choice you have to honor your loved one. We are the Gibbons Family. Your neighbor and your friends, and when you need us to be, your professionals to guide you through the most difficult decisions you may ever have to make.
