GY6: War Party Movement
Today’s post is a little different.
It’s about awareness.
It’s about support
It’s about appreciation of culture and finding meaning.
It’s about purpose and healing.
I’d like you all to take a moment to visit to learn about their mission and, perhaps, support their goals.
Here’s a little background on my interest and how I found them.
First, I’m a cop…I SERVE people. I have a NEED to help. I do it ALL the time…in and out of uniform…
I seek it out.
It’s one of MY purposes.
Second, I owe a ton to Native American cultures…but not in the way you might think…not in the way modern society would have you believe.
You see, I don’t owe anyone an apology. I’ve not done anything associated with the need to. I don’t know anyone who does.
However, I do owe THANKS.
So here’s where I dovetail this all together. I’ve finally come to begin divulging my issues with mental health. It’s something I’ve dealt with since I was 13. I’ve never really sought “help” but I seek “healing”…in my own way.
To say the philosophies and traditions of Native American cultures have formed a lot of that healing is an understatement.
It’s in the books I read.
It’s in symbols I closely associate with and I’m drawn to.
If you’ve paid attention, you’ll see I drop a lot of references to those meanings and symbols. I’ve integrated those meanings to how I travel through this life, how I treat people and how I form the moral compass I follow.
So, find your meaning, research efforts to further causes you support.

Got Your 6 Foundation is an Illinois State Trooper run Not For Profit Organization that was founded, though informally until recently, in 2012 and based on a personal tragedy that I still feel painfully and a promise made to a woman and her family who suffered the ultimate loss of a Father, Husband, Brother and Son...and a personal Brother in Blue...Tpr. Kyle Deatherage.
That feeling of loss and the need to give back to the families continued with Tpr. Sauter...one of the worst, most helpless nights I've ever felt. Sitting in my squad, badge and uniform...and I was unable to do ANYTHING. There had to be more. Something good needed to come from these tragedies.
2019 was hopefully that last worst year in the history of the Illinois State Police. It was also the impetus for the need to keep awareness of their sacrifices alive...forever. That promise I made to Sarah Deatherage so long ago is now extended to all of our/my friends we've lost.
It's owed and we pay our debts.
