Videos by National Runaway Safeline in Chicago. The go-to resource for America’s runaway, homeless and at-risk youth and their families.
A new episode of "Let's Talk" is now available! We are excited to welcome National Runaway Safeline’s Director of Training, Sebastian Ramos, to the podcast! In this episode, we have conversation reflecting on missed opportunities for teaching and practice mindfulness during our school years. Sebastian shares his thoughts on ways mindfulness can be implemented in an educational setting today, and how talking about self-regulation at a young age teaches young people how to set healthy mental health boundaries.

NOVEMBER IS.mp4
We are thrilled to announce that National Runaway Prevention Month (NRPM) has officially been rebranded as Youth Homelessness Outreach, Prevention, & Education Month, or Youth HOPE Month!
https://1800RUNAWAY.org/hope
Since 2001, November has been recognized as National Runaway Prevention Month following a White House Conference on Exploited and Runaway Children. The National Runaway Safeline (NRS) has partnered with hundreds of national, state, and local organizations to promote this vital public awareness campaign. Our goal has always been to highlight the often invisible and overlooked experiences of youth who have run away or experienced homelessness.
The landscape of youth homelessness and runaway issues has evolved significantly since NRPM’s inception. Our understanding of the needs and experiences of young people has deepened and broadened, leading to a more inclusive and comprehensive approach. Today, it is widely acknowledged that incorporating the perspectives of young people with lived experiences is critical in shaping effective support and interventions.
In the coming weeks, we will open registration for individuals and organizations to become official partners of Youth HOPE Month. As a valued past partner of NRPM and/or NRS, you can register as a partner for free NOW! By registering, you gain access to dozens of free resources, including toolkits, outreach materials, and social media graphics. You'll join a network of the most dedicated youth-facing service providers, community leaders, and supporters in the RHY community. Unlike NRPM, which required annual registration, you will only need to complete registration once, and you can easily make any necessary updates directly with NRS’s communications team. You or your organization will remain life-long partners in Youth HOPE Month unless you request removal from our database.

It is HOT out these days! Consider helping local shelters and drop-in centers by donating summer supplies and other needs.
Shelters throughout the country provide safety and protection for people experiencing homelessness. However, many struggle to stay fully stocked with popular, essential items and supplies. This includes summer staples! Help out by donating new (or, in some cases, gently used) items to your local shelter.

Ready to go home? Need to get to a safe place? The National Runaway Safeline can help!
The Home Free program provides a free Greyhound bus ticket to reunite you with your family or legal guardian, or helps you reach an alternative living arrangement, such as a community-based transitional living program.
Also, we collaborate with youth, parents and guardians, law enforcement, anti-trafficking organizations, social service and health care providers, and others to ensure youth who are victims of labor and sex trafficking safely connect with caring adults or get to an alternative living program.

Author Rex Ogle recently released Road Home the final installment of his memoir trilogy. The series follows Rex through middle school (Free Lunch), high school (Punching Bag), and now, after high school graduation, as he shares his experiences with poverty, cycles of abuse and homelessness. In this episode, Rex talks about the emotional toll of sharing past traumas, how some publishers turned him away because they thought he was too vulnerable, and why it was important for him not to sugar-coat his experience. Rex also explains how overcoming internalized homophobia played a role in finding chosen family.
