Dentists' offices are responsible for 10 percent of jobs regained last month The economy is finally brushing up. In a twist that shocked many of the nation's top economists, the U.S.'s May jobs report released Friday showed the country added 2.5 million jobs last month, lowering the unemployment rate from 14.7 percent to 13.3 percent. A large chunk of that gain stemmed from....

Greetings fans! Today the California Dental Association, our state’s component of the American Dental Association, put out the following statement:

“The California Dental Association strongly recommends that dentists practicing in California voluntarily suspend nonessential or non-urgent dental care for the next 14 days. As always, it is expected that dentists will continue to be available as needed for emergency care and services.”

We have decided that it is in the best interest of our team, our patients, and our community to voluntarily suspend providing routine dental care (including cleanings) until March 30. This is a constantly changing situation and we will keep you posted on our operations. We will work diligently to reschedule your appointments to ensure that your needs are met. Thank you for your understanding during this difficult time!

If you should develop dental pain, oral/facial swelling or difficulty chewing during this time, please call our office as we will be available to address your needs.

We saw this misleadingly-titled article pop up today on a widely read news website, fans, and thought we'd put in our two cents:

The author makes a couple good points about the importance of ethics and trust in dentistry, about which we agree completely. If you, the patient, don't feel 100% comfortable with a proposed treatment you should ALWAYS ask for clarification and NEVER hesitate to get a second (or third or fourth) opinion. Ultimately the decision of whether to do treatment is yours alone. This is YOUR dental health (and money, and time) we're talking about!

That said, the author reveals throughout the piece a personal skepticism about and poor grasp of the practice of dentistry in America today. He provides a single account of extreme wrongdoing in dental practice without sharing examples of the much more common (in our minds at least) ethical, well-intentioned, and science-based practice.

It's National Dentist's Day, fans!

To some, today may be among the most significant days of the year. A chance for everyone to express their deepest gratitude to those fighting on the front lines against tooth decay and periodontal disease; skeletal deformity and coffee stains; tooth grinding and fingernail biting.

Wherever you are today, no matter what you are doing, stop everything and take a moment to thank your dentist, hygienist, registered dental assistant, insurance biller and/or front desk person. And remember, truly excellent dental offices have truly excellent patients.

This is what makes it all worthwhile, fans! In all seriousness, though, we really do have the best patients here at Willow Creek Dentistry. We are so grateful to be able to serve our friends, family and neighbors in Chico and beyond.
