A Face Book Farewell from Jean Louise Green CMT, Certified Rolf PractitionerAs she closes her practice of 22 years in Chico, CA

In January of 2023, I closed my Massage Therapy/Structural Integration business titled, Jean Louise Green, CMT, Certified Rolf Practitioner, after 22 years of service here in Chico, CA. This is a big turning point for me, and one that I would like to share with you. In doing so, I say “Thank You” to the people and community of Chico, my clients and colleagues who have helped me grow my skill, and benefit from the things I have learned from all of you!

I have been a very busy person since I came to Chico in July of 1999. Here are some relevant things that I have accomplished:
• 1991: Completion of Certified Basic Structural Integration training with the Guild for Structural Integration.
• 2004-2118: Ongoing teaching of basic and advanced Deep Tissue Classes as a massage school instructor in Chico.
• 2019: Completion of Certified Advanced Structural Integration training with the Guild for Structural Integration.
• 2019: I became a published author with Inner Traditions
* Bear & Company for a Structural Integration book that I wrote over a 7-year period that is designed to accompany a client through their 10-session series. The book title is, Structural Integration and Energy Medicine: A Handbook of Advanced Bodywork, with a Foreword by Biophysicist, James L. Oschman, Ph.D.
• 2019: I became an ongoing student and certified practitioner of Aka Dua, a form of subtle energy healing in the Toltec Philosophy.
• My professional memberships have included: The Guild for Structural Integration (GSI), The International Association of Structural Integration, (IASI), Associated Bodywork & Massage Professional Inc., (ABMP), California Massage Therapy Council, (CAMTC). In 2022, IASI asked me to present another webinar because of the overwhelmingly positive response to my first webinar in 2021. So with the great help of Scott once again, I created and presented a teaching webinar about how to assess and address myofascial rotation patterns in the body through the 10-session series, that I have been developing in the past ten years. During my years of Structural Integration work with clients, I have also inspired and encouraged a handful of people to become Certified Practitioners of Structural Integration. I have also helped to train many students of massage therapy in proper body mechanics and techniques for deep tissue work.

In wrapping up my work here in Chico, I can definitely look back and say that I have been a good “Force with a Purpose” here in Chico. I sense that I am leaving Chico a better place in the upgraded quality of bodywork being done here, since my arrival in July of 1999 with my significant partner, Benjamin Hills.

Now we prepare to head off to the next part of our lives where we will be closer to family and actively participate in grandparenting as I shift into a retired or semi-retired mode.

The people I would love to acknowledge as our Chico angels include, Willow and Ron Dejesus, who have been instrumental in bringing a lot of fun into our lives through the years. Willow has also spearheaded a Gratitude Group that I have been part of for years where we dive into the deeper aspects of our human experience.

I would also like to acknowledge Rosemary Quinn for her friendship and great editing skills of my Structural Integration book. Katarra Shaw for her great Structural Integration skills in the work that we have given and received with each other through the years. Scott Amick, for his service in assisting me with my two IASI webinars. Candi Williamson for dedicating herself to acquiring numerous massage skills and developing a great massage clinic here in Chico called “Creating A Sustainable You,” and a Certified School of Massage called “Chico Massage School.”

Thank you Candi for following your heart and bringing these great services to Chico. I am so grateful to have found Structural Integration! It is included in my top three life experiences. Not only does it give me a comfortable body to live in, it has also provided me with a life-long profession of meaningful connection with people. I hear words like, “I almost feel reborn! I am in awe! Now I can feel these muscles moving again!” Yes, this is my privilege, and it occurs daily on Structural Integration tables around the world.

For decades, I have studied this form of bodywork in its depth and subtlety through my work with many clients. Structural Integration and Energy Medicine: A Handbook of Advanced Bodywork is the culmination of my years of experience as practitioner and recipient of Structural Integration. The book is laced with stories of people I have worked with and how their bodies and lives have changed as a result. It is also filled with the wisdom of many master teachers, especially Dr. Ida P. Rolf. Dr. Rolf’s words are quoted throughout the book and at the beginning of each session.

Structural Integration is done in a series of ten sessions, and there is only so much time in each session time to do the physical work with the client and educate them about the process itself. So I rose to the call to create this practical Structural Integration handbook. I hope that it captures the brilliance of Dr. Rolf’s ideas, and presents the nuts and bolts of the recipe of her work in a way that becomes a guide for both clients and practitioners. I look forward to the inspired conversations I will have with people as they read this book.

I am also excited to share my experience of the Line with other practitioners. Dr. Rolf said that gravity could be a beneficial force. What exactly did she mean by that? I have quested deeply around those words. As practitioners read this book, I challenge them to experience their Line in an energetic way that perhaps they have not done so before.

An owner’s manual:
I liken this book to an owner’s manual for the human body. We live in a gravitational field and what the structure of our body is doing in relation to that field matters! During my training to become a practitioner, I had one of those life-changing Rolfing/SI experiences. After a session with my practitioner, where core-level structures in my body were released, I felt the support of the Earth in an entirely new way. My anterior pelvis and excessive arch in my lower back was restored to its natural horizontal position. My body was able to drop into the support of the Earth; a sense of lift moved up through me. No longer was I struggling against gravity; instead, I skipped for joy! Now I could sit, stand, kneel and run comfortably again. This experience of the power of alignment in an organized body is one of the many wonderful possibilities of Structural Integration.

When biophysicist James Oschman’s first read my manuscript, he commented, “I really like what I am reading. You have captured the essence of Rolfing/SI in a clear way that I have not seen before. I have needed this book for a long time. It is delicious!” In his Foreword for the book, he stated, “An awareness of the concepts presented in this book can benefit anyone, and can also enhance the work of all health care practitioners. The reason for such a bold claim is simple: all healing methodologies and practices affect anatomical balance, whether or not one realizes or intends it. The mechanism: all of the systems in the body are interconnected. Bringing balance to any one system affects all of the others.”

Practitioners may even expand their own experience of their Line. This is a resource guide practitioners can offer their clients to delve into the multi-faceted aspects of Structural Integration.
