We will continue to share information about the health risks associated with fabricating engineered stone countertops for workers. Australia has already passed a nationwide ban and now there is a push to ban fabricating in California as well.

California Assembly Bill (AB3043) introduced in 2023 aims to protect workers from crystalline silica exposure during stone slab fabrication. Here are the key points of the bill:

* Safer work practices: It mandates the use of effective wet methods to suppress dust during fabrication activities, reducing worker inhalation of harmful silica dust.

*Licensing for fabrication shops: The bill requires shops working with stone slabs containing crystalline silica to obtain a specific license. This licensing process could involve regulations and inspections to ensure compliance with safety protocols.
These regulations could significantly improve working conditions for fabrication workers, especially in Los Angeles where a high number of silicosis cases have been identified.
