Using new vocuabulary and asking questions builds your child's vocabulary, thinking and reasoning skills. Try this next time it's snack time. For example if you are picking out a fruit for a snack ask "Is this orange sweet or sour? Is this apple crisp or mushy?" Use words your child might not understand yet and ask him to use his own words to describe tastes. Later when you eat the fruit talk about the taste and texture. You can do this with any snack.
Play Play Play! It's the best thing you can do for your baby, toddler, preschooler, and school age child! Take a look at this age by age guide to playing wity your kid.

Start the new year with brain building tips to help prepare your child for school.
M&M Christmas Candy Math
First cut out Christmas trees out of constrution paper and write a number in the center. Do this through number 10 (so you will need 10 Christmas tree cutouts). Then ask your preschooler to count out the number of M&Ms and match them to the tree.
Let's build with marshmellows. Marshmellow begins with the letter Mm. Talk about that with your preschooler as you give them toothpicks and marshmellows to build with. Let them get creative to see what them come up with. Don't forget to ask them questiosn about their creation.
Ornament Sorting
As you are decorating for Christmas this year get out some muffin pans and have your preschooler sort the ornaments.
Wrapping Paper Cutting Fun
Use left over wrapping paper for your preschooler to cut pictures out. This is great fine motor and scissor cutting practice. Once pictures are cut out they can match pictures or create patterns.
Does your preschooler need to strengthen fine motor skills? Practice scissor cutting with this Christmas gift tag activity.
This was a popular activity last year so we thought we would share it again.
Christmas Tree Letter Matching. This is super easy. Just create a tree with white yardsale dots. Write uppercase letter on white dots. Then on colored yardsale dots write lowercase letters. Now let your preschooler begin matching letters.
Let's make turkeys.

Thanksgiving Songs for Children - Ten Little Turkeys - Turkey Kids Songs by The Learning Station Your kids will enjoy our popular Thanksgiving kids song “Ten Little Turkeys" (10 Little Turkeys) from, “Children’s Favorites Autumn Songs”. Download CD: http...
Order by Size and Length: Your preschooler is learning about ordering objects by size. You can practice this at home. Do you have cookie cutters of different sizes? Ask your preschooler to order them smallest to largest.
Do you have building blocks at home? Ask your preschooler to build a tower smaller than them, taller than them, same size as them, etc... Have fun!
Read Aloud: Biggest, Strongest, Fastest.
After reading get your child's brain thinking. Ask them open ended questions such as How does the author tell us how the amimals move? Which animals move the fastest? Can you move like that animal?
