Bocce can be played with two, four, or eight players. The game begins with a player throwing the pallino to the other end of the pitch. Players then take turns throwing their colored balls, trying to get as close to the pallino as possible. The team with the closest ball scores a point. The game is usually played to 12 points, and the team that scores first in a round throws the pallino in the next round.
Over the last couple of months, we've been exploring the basics of common varieties of lawn w**ds. We've looked at broadleaf w**ds and grassy w**ds. Now we're taking a deep dive into sedges!
What Is a Sedge? Nutsedge can be distinguished by its growth habit, light green color, and rapid growth rate, resulting in a non-uniform turf. Controlling it can be a challenge!

Here are five lawn mistakes to avoid this summer:
🌿 Overwatering: Too much water can lead to shallow roots and disease. Water deeply but infrequently.
🌿 Mowing Too Short: Cutting grass too short stresses it and makes it vulnerable to heat and pests.
🌿 Ignoring W**ds: Address w**ds early with targeted treatments to prevent them from spreading.
🌿 Fertilizing in Heat: Applying fertilizer during high temperatures can burn the lawn.
🌿 Neglecting Aeration: Compacted soil prevents roots from accessing air and nutrients. Aerate your lawn to promote healthy growth.
By avoiding these common mistakes, you'll maintain a lush and healthy lawn all summer long! 🌿☀️ Need help? Contact us today!

Sunshine, summer vacations, and plenty of time outside–the summer season is for relaxing and reducing stress. Unfortunately, the same can’t be said for your lawn. The extreme temperatures of the season can cause a formerly vibrant lawn to dry out and wither. One of the most common summer conditions affecting lawns is heat and drought stress.
Diagnosing Heat Stress on Your Lawn What can I do when my lawn is experiencing heat and drought stress? Here’s how to diagnose heat and drought stress and some steps to protect your grass from hot dry weather.
GAMES - Pickle in the Middle
Pickle in the Middle or Monkey in the Middle (“Keep Away”) is played by drawing a circle on the ground about ten feet in diameter. One person stands in the center and is “it,” (a.k.a. the monkey or the pickle). Everyone else stands outside the circle and must try to throw a designated ball to one another through the circle without allowing the monkey/pickle to touch it. This continues until the person who is “it” catches the ball or otherwise gains possession due to a failed catch, deflection, etc. The intended recipient who failed to catch the ball then replaces the person in the middle, unless they fall after the ball touches any part of their body. The ball cannot be torn out of any of the players’ hands.

Preventing the effects of heat and drought stress in your lawn actually starts in the fall and spring. Your annual mechanical core aeration can relieve soil compaction by mechanically removing cores of soil, ultimately encouraging the uptake of nutrients and oxygen through a deeper root system. This can give your lawn a better chance to withstand the summer heat. Poor growing conditions such as clay or sandy soils may require a little extra attention. Annual aeration will reduce water run-off, which allows more water to reach the rooting system and provide a healthier lawn.

Raise your mowing height periods of summer heat, and never remove more than 1/3 of the leaf blade in a single mowing session. Keeping your grass a little longer helps to keep the crowns of the grass plant cool and shaded, which will help the lawn maintain its color and health. Much like watering, it’s best to mow in the morning when possible. Make sure you keep the mower blade razor-sharp to help the grass plants heal and prevent a brown appearance!
At W**d Man, we like to think of your lawn care program as a partnership. We take care of expert services like fertilization, w**d control, and mechanical core aeration, and, for the best results, you’ll want to keep up with proper mowing and watering practices. It takes diligence and consistency throughout the season to help your lawn grow healthy, lush, and green!
If your lawn is experiencing heat and drought stress, water deeply and more frequently than you normally would. If you live in a more northern region of North America, this might mean watering about 3 to 4 times a week. If you live in a more southern region, with hotter weather and less rain, you might need to water every other day to help your lawn green up again. The ideal time to water your lawn is early in the morning, between 5 and 9 am, when temperatures are cooler and the water will not evaporate. Ask your local W**d Man professional for specific watering tips that suit the conditions of your lawn and your geographic location.
Drought Stress Drought stress can cause your grass to turn brown and dormant, while also making it more susceptible to pests and disease.
Between planning and packing, there’s already a lot on your summer vacation to-do list! The last thing you want to worry about is how your lawn will fare while you’re away. Fortunately, depending on the weather conditions, a healthy, well-maintained lawn should be fine for a week or two. Here are some simple steps you can take before and after your trip to give your lawn the best chances on its own with the summer heat.

Chalk it up to fun. An inexpensive box of colored chalk can keep the kids busy for hours. Have younger kids draw pictures on the sidewalk or driveway. For older children, try a game of Tic Tac Toe or hopscotch. To get started, simply draw a pattern with eight squares. Players can then toss a marker (try a stone or button) onto one of the squares and hop over it on one foot.

How to Work From Home – Outside! 5 Steps to Turn Your Lush, Green Lawn into Your Home Office
Keep your lawn mower blade razor sharp to ensure it makes a clean and precise cut of each blade of grass. This allows the lawn to heal quickly after mowing. A dull lawn mower can tear the blades of grass, which slows the healing process and exposes the torn, wounded tissue to possible turf disease attack. For safety, most lawn mower blades do not come sharpened from the factory, so you will likely need to sharpen your blade before the first mow with a new mower blade.
Grassy w**ds, like crabgrass, are characterized by slender leaves that resemble turfgrass. They look and behave differently than the other common w**d varieties, broadleaf w**ds, and sedges, which means that the methods used to control them will differ as well. Today, we’re taking a closer look at grassy w**ds – and what to do about them!

What Is a Grassy W**d? Though grassy w**ds like crabgrass look similar to turfgrass, they weaken your lawn and make it susceptible to disease, pests, and other w**ds.
Avoid mowing when lawn disease is active in your lawn to prevent the spread of the disease. Your mowing equipment can pick up fungal lawn diseases and inadvertently spread them to other areas of your lawn. If you absolutely must mow while the disease is active, make sure your blade is razor sharp so it does not fray the tips of the grass, further spreading the disease.
