Small businesses matter. Every DRYmedic location is locally owned and operated. Read our new blog post to learn more about DRYmedic and the community:

Think your ceiling fans are useless during the colder months? Think again! Did you know they can actually warm you up? If you run your fan at low speed in a clockwise direction, it will create a gentle updraft, displacing the warm air and forcing it down into your living area. This can allow you to lower your thermostat usage, saving you on heating bills.
Ever wondered if mold can still be a problem in the winter?
The short answer is that while mold does thrive in warm temperatures, cold weather alone will not kill it.
In fact, the cooler months often bring precipitation and dew, and surfaces that gather moisture (such as window panes) become the perfect spot for mold to grow.

Protimeters are next on our Restoration Equipment 101 series! These useful handheld gadgets are used to measure moisture levels in different building materials such as wood, drywall, concrete, stucco, plaster, masonry, etc. Finding a high moisture reading on concrete subfloor for example could indicate that it might not be a good idea to lay wood floor on top. That's just one situation where protimeters come in handy.
This time on our What to Look For series, we have wood floor buckling/bowing. If the wood floor in a property is separating and lifting from the subfloor, the most common reason is excess moisture from spills, flooding, or a humid environment. The solution is either drying out the moisture or replacing the section of flooring altogether.
