Today, we honor the brave individuals who work tirelessly to protect and serve us. National First Responder Day is a reminder of the courage and commitment shown by those who put themselves in harm’s way to keep us safe.

You stand as a shield against the darkness of this world, often carrying heavy burdens alone. Please know that we see your sacrifices, and many of us in the mental health field are here, committed to helping lighten that load. We stand ready to serve you, as you have served us.

Thank you to the firefighters, paramedics, police officers, dispatchers, and all emergency responders who go above and beyond. We are grateful for your courage, your selflessness, and the countless ways you serve our communities.

This hits deep and is so true…💜

Emotions are like the dashboard lights in a vehicle. Just as these lights inform us about what’s going on under the hood, like low fuel, an overheating engine, or even that things are working properly. Our emotions provide valuable insights into our inner state.

For instance, joy can be compared to the reassuring glow of the “fuel” light when it’s full. Just as a full tank signals to us that the vehicle is ready for the journey ahead, feelings of joy indicate that we have the energy and optimism to tackle life’s challenges.

When the “seatbelt” light goes off after we buckle up, it reassures us that we’re safe, similar to how feelings of calm let us know we’re secured and protected. A steady “traction control” light indicates that the vehicle can handle difficult road conditions, just as feelings of courage and passion show us that we can navigate challenges. And when the “check oil” light is off, it means everything is functioning well, reflecting our overall emotional health.

While some dashboard lights warn us about issues that need resolving, others indicate that things are running smoothly. Ignoring these signals can lead to bigger problems, just like overlooking dashboard warnings can lead to a breakdown.

By tuning into all our emotional signals and recognizing that they have good intentions for us, we can gain a deeper understanding of ourselves and others. This awareness helps us face life’s challenges while also embracing the joyful moments, and ultimately strengthening our connection with ourselves and the ones we love.

🥀Grief isn’t something we just ‘get over.’

Grief has no set timeline and doesn’t follow any specific rules.

It’s a way to honor who and what we’ve lost while gradually learning how to live with their physical absence.

It’s a journey where we carry the emotional weight of our loss, along with the love and deep connections we shared with those we’ve lost.

The complex emotions that come with grief (i.e. sadness, anger, numbness, and even happiness when recalling good times) are our constant companions as we navigate this healing process.

These emotions influence how we cope with our loss and help us remember and honor the meaningful moments we shared with the person or thing we lost.

Essentially, our emotions play a crucial role in how we process grief and keep the memories of our loved ones alive. 💔✨

Healing isn’t about forgetting or “moving on” and it isn’t about erasing the pain; it’s about learning how to live alongside it.

It’s about allowing ourselves to feel, to remember, and to integrate grief into our lives, moment by moment, in our own way.

Some days will be lighter, while others may feel heavier, and each moment will be step by step in your own time. 🌿

If you’re grieving, know that you’re not alone.

Your pain is real, and so is your resilience.

Take it one day, one hour, or even one minute at a time. 🕊️

Be gentle with yourself.

Allow yourself to feel, and remember that while grief is part of your story, so is healing. 🌱

Touch is soooooo important. Newborns need touch to thrive. Often the last way to communicate with a dying loved one is through touch. Don’t forget about all the moments in between. 🪴
