A beautiful day for a Baptism!!! Welcome to these sweet girls and their Mama. We are so excited to welcome you as official members of Hilldale!

And just like that, VBS 2024 has come to a close. 😌🥰 We had a GREAT time with our “campers” and can’t wait to see how they continue to grow in their faith!

It’s no surprise to anyone who’s ever attended VBS or had a child participate that it takes SO MANY people to pull it off. We had the best team—from organizers to decorators to leaders to cooks, they checked all the boxes and then some!!

Special shout-out to two who were quite literally working hard behind the scenes to make VBS a success—Crystal (aka Lu the Lightning Bug) and Travis (aka Camper Sam) Keeran! Beyond being our actors, they were steadily filling in the gaps and lending helping hands wherever they were needed. Thank y’all!

We had a GREAT first night at Camp FireLight VBS!!! Join us tomorrow, Saturday June 8th from 9-3! What a fun night of hiking, obstacles courses, science and crafts!!

Our VBS Team has been hard at work this week getting ready for ✨Camp Firelight✨ and we are in awe of their creativity!!

It was a full morning at Hilldale United Methodist Church and, as is typical, the children stole the show during worship—over and above exceeding my expectations in our conversations about how Jesus teaches us that sometimes it’s okay to break the rules if it means helping someone who needs it. At some juncture one of them said something profound and I responded to the congregation, “Alright, folks that’ll do it. You can leave now.” And a new small friend who hadn’t yet interjected her sweet voice earnestly looked at me and quietly said, “I want to stay.”

And that, my dears, is the goal…the dream, really. That children will come, that they’ll inevitably transform US, and that perhaps in some small way we’ll inspire transformation in them as well. And while they won’t want to stay the same (as we know is the way of growing children), they give us the greatest compliment when they say they want to stay with us as they experience various points of divine growth, transformation, and metamorphosis in their relationship with God.

What an absolute honor and privilege to be along for the journey with them—our organic and steadfast reminders of who God IS and who God hopes the church will BE.

And for this, their faithful gift, we say: Thanks be to God. Amen 🩷

Hilldale UMC is partnering again this year with Project Transformation!! Our days to read and provide meals for PT interns are June 17, 18 and 20th.
