The time between Memorial Day and Labor Day has notoriously become known as the “100 Deadliest Days” for teen drivers. The most important thing parents can do to keep their teens safe behind the wheel is to stay involved, and practice the “5 To Drive” rules:

📵 Avoid Distractions
🚭 Avoid Substances
🚗 Avoid driving with extra passengers
🚦 Buckle Up
🏎️ Slow Down

The Clarksville Police Department is currently on the scene of a wreck with injuries involving a vehicle and a semi-tractor trailer. The crash occurred at approximately 9:48 a.m. and the eastbound lanes of I-24 are completely shut down at MM8. Motorists are able to take the Exit 8 offramp and then proceed across Rossview Rd. and back onto I-24 East, but traffic is moving slowly. Motorists traveling eastbound on I-24 are advised to find an alternate route or expect to be delayed.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol is on the scene and working on the crash and the status of the injuries is unknown at this time however, both occupants of the vehicle are going to be flown to Nashville by life flight helicopter. The Tennessee Highway Patrol is the investigating agency and I will refer all further inquiries to that agency.

Numerous vehicles have sustained damage (blown tires, oil pans, rim damage) from driving over it. TDOT has been notified.

WEATHER ALERT!

Don’t let your eyes deceive you. The roads look wet but they are covered in ice.

Our patrol deputies are reporting icy roads all across the county. Cars have slid through intersections and have also been unable to travel up some hills.

It may take some time for these conditions to clear, so if you must drive, please be very careful. Slow down, give plenty of space between vehicles, and give yourself extra time and distance when trying to stop.

The photo below is of Hwy 48 at 149. You can see the green light reflecting off the road. It may just look like rain, but it’s ice.

Be careful!

Be aware, be alert! If you need to be out and about on the road, reduce your speed and watch for people clearing driveways and sidewalks.
