This time of year is very busy for CPAs, who are working long hours to complete client returns by the April 15th tax filing deadline. While Advisors at Moneta do not complete tax returns, we do offer tax planning services to our clients throughout the whole calendar year.

Taxes touch everything, from portfolio construction to estate planning and beyond, and we believe that coordinating tax planning strategies with our client’s other tax and attorney partners is critical in providing comprehensive service. The current economic and political landscape is full of uncertainty. Two active wars, continuing talks of a recession (or not), deteriorating relations between the United States and China, expectations of rate cuts but lack of clarity as to when, upcoming elections…..I could go on. Often, feelings of uncertainty can lead individuals into an incorrect mindset that some action – any action – is needed in order to calm nerves.
This can be potentially detrimental to investment portfolios. Several studies have shown that sitting out of the market for even just a handful of positive performing days can have extremely negative long-term impacts on performance results. Investors tend to be best served by sticking to their allocation plans through the good, the bad and the ugly, as the best performing days often surprise us during periods of volatility.
